not the norm..... but still amazingly ridiculous

last week was the preachers' conference at out church. b/c of that church gets moved to thursday night. so that means no thursday vball games. we were scheduled to have practice that thursday night..... problem: two gyms for two teams, but one gym was being used by the preachers....baptists gotta eat, right? so i asked if we could move our jv practice to wednesday and varsity could practice thursday. normally, nathan comes home for practice and we both drive up together after we drop connor at nic's house. since he didn't have practice i was going to walk up to the school by myself. it was a very nice day...even a little on the warm side.... so i didn't think it would be that big of a deal.

i asked my neighbor to watch him since it was a wednesday practice and nicole would be trying to get dinner ready and the girls fed before church. it's nice to have neighbors from church that i know and trust.... don't worry i didn't let the druggies watch him. he only goes there for sleepovers every other tuesday.... when ted's not busy. (family joke....sorry i couldn't resist.) so after she picked up her kids from school, i walked over and dropped him off. by then it was about 3:25p. practice starts at 3:30p so i was really bookin' it. by the time i hit allen road i was actually getting pretty hot. it was a lot warmer than i expected.

now let me ask you this: if you were driving somewhere and saw someone you knew that you also knew was heading that same direction....would ya stop? how about this: they were going to the same place? even though they were pretty close to the destination would you pick them up?

so i hear a honk.... common occurrence on allen after the high school kids get out. they think it's hilarious to honk at people walking. so of course, i didn't think much of it, and i didn't look--i very rarely do b/c i don't want those stupid kids to think they've won. it's also pretty common to see people you know driving as you walk up allen rd. so on the times that i do look it's usually someone going the other direction like uncle paul or aunt claudia.

i get to the school and the girls were getting ready to go. good job girls. then one of them says, "coach is in miss poole's office." huh? nathan's here? then they start whispering..... ok, what's the deal? finally the giddy time ends and one of the girls got up the courage to tell me what was going on..... "he said he saw you walking."
"WHAT???!!!!!"
i chucked my bag up on the stage and proceeded to steam into nancy's office. there stood nathan with a half chuckle/half please don't kill me look on his face. don't worry i slugged him pretty good.
"you SAW me????"
"well, i drove past and then i thought, 'hey, that looked like christina.' then i looked back and said, 'oh. that was christina.' uh oh. by then you were crossing the street."
"was that you that honked?"
"yeah."
"ok, farto... you could have picked me up! i wasn't THAT close to crossing yet!"
"woops."
"yeah, woops!"

ok, how he didn't recognize me when he knew i was walking to practice that day i still don't konw. we joked about that for a while. i slugged him a few more times, then he stayed for a couple minutes and helped with my practice. he had to leave quick to go ref though. we both said this had to be a story for the blog. it was too stupid to pass up.

two saturdays ago the weather was just right to do some yard work, so i called it a family work day. nathan trimmed the bushes in the back and mowed the grass. i trimmed up some of the flowers for winter, and connor pretended to cut the bushes with his jump rope. apparently, to him the long rope looked like the power cord on daddy's bush trimmers. he kept pushing the rope to the bushes and saying, "i fix the bushes, mommy."
