change it up

i think it's safe to say that spring is officially here... and here to stay. it's really been here for a while, but i always wait until the first of may to change the kids clothes for the season. that way i don't accidentally get rid of all the warm pants and sweatshirts and then have a 40 degree day to deal with.... not fun. so, having lived in michigan for all my living days i've learned to enjoy early warm days... enjoy them. don't trust them. cold days are sneaky little boogers.

i've been putting it off for a while. we've had lots of warm days. i just hate the process of changing out the clothes. i should be jumping for joy every season. God has been so good to us with the whole process of clothing our children. i have literally never... NEVER... had to buy ANYTHING for megan. i've found cute things on clearance that i've picked up here and there. but she has never NEEDED anything. and truthfully, i have only needed to purchase a few things here and there for connor. God has truly provided our needs. and i really am thankful. but here's where my depravity kicks into high gear... i hate the process of swapping it out. i try not to let that overshadow my thankfulness.

last night i knew today HAD to be the day. i've been dreading it. nathan's gone at a vball tourney all day, the weather is cold, rainy and windy so i'm not tempted to go outside and read.... it's the perfect day for changing it up. i told the kids they had to play downstairs so i would have the whole living room to organize. everything was going well.... besides the fact that i felt completely unmotivated and had a throbbing headache. oh, and the kids were fighting so i had to go down and stop the hitting and screaming about... oh... i'd say 1,000 times. i decided to blast my favorite music and rely on mt. dew for energy. turned out to be a good combination.

about halfway through my process of taking out the old and digging up the new, connor came upstairs. he was followed quickly by his shadow... meggie. he wasn't pestering or getting in the way. in fact he was being kind of helpful, so i decided not to banish them back downstairs. connor's favorite song came on so, of course, he had to go get his guitar and play along. we were having a blast. suddenly, connor let out a squeal and grabbed his foot. he must have dropped his guitar on his toes. i knew it couldn't have been THAT bad. he's been a little dramatic about little stuff lately, so i gave him a sympathetic mom face and was about to give him the "get tough" face when he turned his little squealish cry into a full blown oscar worthy drama. only it wasn't very dramatic. it was hilarious. he threw his arms up and flopped his entire body on the couch.. face down. he continued to cry, and i was ready to give him the knock-it-off speech. but i couldn't. i found his performance hilarious in it's entirety. i busted up laughing. which of course, made him cry even more. i wasn't trying to be mean. i just couldn't take him seriously. neither could meg. she laughed too. i managed to pull it together long enough to tell him to go sit on his bed until he had himself under control. as soon as he left the room i was chuckling again. meg said, "connor funny." and i whispered, "that wasn't funny.... it was hilarious." she said, "yeah... fuh-larious!" which was also deliciously cute. i went to his room and we talked about self-control... AGAIN. seems like i say that word a billion times a day. he was fine after that.

so i went back to work and managed to finish swapping out all the clothes before lunch, and i even put away the returns from maxwell. i really am thankful for all the clothes i have for my kids. african kids wear the same clothes nearly every day, and i am giving away six diaper boxes FULL of clothes that my kids didn't even wear last season.... or stuff that i just didn't like. yeah, i have that much. i can give away stuff i don't like and i STILL have more than enough for them. we are blessed, indeed.

here are some pics from this morning.... oh, and i found one that really fits with this post about connor wanting to do EXACTLY what nathan does. too cute.

she found some shorts and tried to put them on herself. she was so proud of herself and took teeny tiny steps all the way from her room to the table where i took this picture.

i took this when i was nearly done, so this doesn't even do justice to the mess i make when swapping the clothes out. but still... you can tell how much we have. lots of stuff in many sizes.

mom this is a huge mess! see the guitar on the floor? :)

sporting their guy harvey shirts. matchy matchy.

Charlotte and I laugh at Gavin when he's being dramatic, too. Gavin doesn't like it so much either.

I thought little girls were the only ones with drama issues! We talk self-control ad nauseum in our home too. Maybe I should try your laughing technique more often! :)

We are similarly blessed when it comes to kids' clothes! I have to stop accepting hand-me-downs for Clive because we have such an abundance! Chloe grows faster than a weed on speed so I just continually pick things up when I find a good deal.
