brain overload

most of the time as a new-ish mom, i have days when i don't even think my brain is functioning... other than the obligatory "breathe in....aaaaaaand breathe out..... breathe in..... aaaaaaaand breathe out." but then there are times when my brain is so full of questions, ideas, thoughts and some junk food that i think my head will explode. today i am full of thoughts, ideas, questions, musings.... all of the above. you are the lucky recipient.

the kids spent last night at my parents house. all the cousins... the bigger kids.... got to go over for a sleep over. so that meant..... DATE NIGHT! we debated about what to do, and ended up at ruby tuesday. i could eat at ruby tuesday and only get the salad bar... every time. seriously. it's that good. they have a phenomenal selection and those croutons are to.die.for. last night ruby one up'ed it..... the croutons were HOT! oh, baby! but since we were on a date night, we decided to also get the meal deal. we got steak and shrimp scampi... one of my favorites, indeed. i ate all of my salad and then about 5 bites of each thing they plopped in front of me after that. it was delightful. and it will again be a delight when i eat it tomorrow for lunch. nathan laughed at me, but i'll be laughing when he's at his tournament and i'm having steak and scampi. but i digress.... we had more fun than we've had in a long time. laughing and being silly. walking around barnes and noble at 9:30 instead of crashing in bed b/c we were exhausted. we really lived it up last night! :) we even got a movie and stayed up until 12:30 watching it. 12:30!!! do you know how late that is?? incredible that i am even functional today.

but now, we're home. the kids are snoozing and i'm sitting in my backyard lounging and reading with the sound of my neighbor's lawn mower in the background. i'm pretending it's the ocean. that's not working out as well as i had planned, but it's all good.

i've got two books with me. don't make me count to three and agatha christie's the body in the library. a little fun mixed with a little necessity. my children have been winning battles lately. i'm tired of dealing with all the gunk in their sinful little hearts, and i've been losing ground. so i knew it was time for a re-read on DMMCTT. it's hard to fight satan; especially when he's got a stronghold on my son's or daughter's heart. but even as i read this book again i go through the same mental battles as the first time(s) i read it. "how can you expect an unregenerate heart to respond rightly to this?" and then it's as if the Holy Spirit guides my thoughts, "b/c you are using Scripture to point out his sinfulness." we have to see our short comings. the Law didn't save; it showed the sinfulness of hearts. the short comings. if i'm continually bathing their actions and reactions with "what does God say about this?" then i am simply pointing them to Christ. will He allow them to see and understand soon? i don't know, but if i don't point it out to them, how will they see?

my brain feels better now. thanks for listening. in honor of your fortitude, i will post some pics that i found from nathan's phone.

Such a good post (as always) I loved it because you nailed it big time! Constantly bringing them back to the Word....this battle will be going on for many years to come so buckle up and join the rest of us on the journey. You will see your kids sinful hearts as well as your own. Its not always pretty but thankfully we are not doing it alone. Keep going girl! You are an awesome mom!

my *own* sinful heart....no doubt! i was painfully aware of that last night... :~/ as i was trying to implement some of the ideas from that book i was desperately searching my cobweb covered brain for scriptures to give the kids. can we say, "data not found"?.... perhaps partly b/c of the pressure of the moment... you know, frantically trying to recall what you've heard and learned.... but also a reminder of my own need to constantly bathe MY thoughts and MY sinful heart with the Word.

Christy is reading a new book by Lynn Austin - don't remember the name of it, but she said she likes it.
