i get it that sports are intense. i get it that it's easy to lose your cool. we're depraved. my issue is usually with those that lose it on a regular basis and don't admit it, apologize for it, or try to control it. but that's another post. this is a real hot button for me, so i'll try not to rabbit trail .... or lose MY cool.
last night, armando galarraga missed out on pitching a perfect game by one call..... one missed call. *insert collective sports sigh -- OOOOHHHHH!* it was, most definitely, a big time bummer. to be so close. i expected to see jim leyland and a collective host of others arguing with the umps. but what's bothering me today... and last night.... is that all i am seeing on facebook (read: the black hole of time consumption) is complaining! all i see is "he was robbed! horrible call! you suck, jim joyce!"
why haven't we focused on their responses to each other? joyce admitting he missed the call and APOLOGIZING to galarraga? that's unheard of! galarraga being gracious to accept that apology!! now, THERE'S something i want my son to see from the sports world. believers or not... those men stepped up to the plate....pun fully intended. is that even a pun? i don't know... i wasn't a fan of english class. which is a shame b/c it could have come in handy considering i speak english.
well, i feel better. good for you, armando. a TRULY perfect game to show your kids. show them with joy, and hope they will someday do the same.

glad you linked it into your facebook....much easier to know there's a new post. Also....im with ya that it's something good to see the way they handled it. I wasn't so bothered with the bummed, missed call, shouldve been perfect comments. I was bothered by "fire him!" seriously! Mistakes are made....get over it. All I kept thinking was there's no dispute at this point that the call was blown, so in everyones mind it was a perfect game. And NOW probably one of the most memorable perfect games. I know....the record books....whatever....
In MY defense (even though my dad has told me a million times in my life to never defend myself) :) I wrote my status seconds after the call. I was emotionally charged. But in the comments it was acknowledge that Jim Joyce and Armando handled it with real character. It was obviously disappointing because we were watching history in the making. BUT . . . .life goes on and today I couldn't care less. haha. But I do agree, their responses were incredible. But I was a little worried that some over zealous fans were going to kill the ump.
yeah, kelly, i know what you mean.... i get the whole *aaaagggghhhhh!* feeling. and really, is that even wrong? the initial gasp of shock? what people do AFTER that is what kills me. it's like what you said... the zealots that are ready to fire the ump, or worse.... i'm really kind of afraid for that guy.
i have to say, i am AMAZED that you got the picture of ben watching it unfold. that's one you won't forget.
PREEEEEEEEECH it sista! An apology in sports AND the guy was gracious to accept. Its a win/win now lets move on Detroit :)
