everything's fine

i had to start that way b/c i am about to tell a story of an injury. so just to repeat.... everything's fine. and i'm so thankful. meg is a daredevil.... to the extreme. she goes to the edge, takes note of the edge, throws caution to the wind, and dances on the edge. and then she fake laughs. to a person like me, that is EXTREMELY nerve wracking. i stay far from the edge. i don't even like to look over the edge. connor was--and is-- like that. i love it. i know he'll grow out of it more and more--and he is. but i've enjoyed four solid years of very few, and very minor injuries. i truly praise the Lord for that.

yesterday, meg was super clumsy. growth spurt maybe? and both kids were kind of whiny and fighting. nathan was gone in port huron, and i figured it would be a good night to end a little early. i started bath time early, got everyone into jammies, and was going to watch green eggs and ham with them. my mom called and asked me to look something up on the internet, so i was busy on the computer while the kids were just waiting for the movie to start. then i heard a thud, and meg started crying. i casually told my mom i had to go see about meg. i went toward both kids and instantly said, "connor, did you do this?" .... at this point it's a reflex. he said he was at the couch and didn't see what happened. so i just scooped up meg and started to give her a little snuggle. she plopped her head down on my shoulder covering the 1/2 inch protrusion that was making it's debut on her forehead. when she settled down a bit, she looked up at me and i'm fairly certain my eyes became as big as saucers. this was like watching daffy duck get konked on the head and then the cartoon goose egg pops up. it seriously popped that fast.

so, i ran to the kitchen to get some frozen veggies and a towel. she was having none of that. so i opted for a plain old wet towel. that seemed to be acceptable to her highness. since this was pretty much the second worst injury that we've encountered --- i know, talk about blessings, huh?--- i really wasn't sure if i should do anything else for her. she had stopped crying. she was responsive. no puking. i had given her some tylenol for that sure to be wicked headache. but i felt so completely helpless and small. i sent nathan a text just to let him know, and checked to see if i had done the typical first aid---he is the one that is really good at that stuff. but i had done everything he said, so that made me feel better... a little. i called my mom back and said, "well, meg's fall was a bit worse than i thought." she and my dad were out and about (mind you they were about 45 minutes away) so she said she'd stop by if i wanted her to check meg out. of course, i said yes. i was totally doubting myself even though in the back of my mind i knew i had done all the regular first aid.

by the time they got to our house, meg was snuggling with me on the couch just drinking her milk while i held the rag on her head. the swelling had already gone down quite a bit. i was actually really surprised by that. after some snuggles from bb and grampa she seemed to be back to her normal self. i checked on her a few times in the night, and she really was fine. in fact, she probably slept better than me. today you wouldn't even know she hit her head. the bump is almost completely gone and the bruise and teeny cut are covered under her hair line. i wish now that i had snapped a picture of the goose egg. i'm sure with this girl i'll have WAY too many chances to get another shot of one.

but still... i'm praising the Lord that this is the worst thing we've encountered. this is nothing, and we are so blessed.

i know i already had some spaghetti night shots of meg, but this was too cute. this little chow hound puts away more than her brother. she's still young enough to make that cute. she's really a good eater for me which is great.

Oh my heart!! I truly understand your anxious heart! We are so glad she is OK now. Poor Connor, I'm sure he was wondering, 'what happened to you meg in just a few seconds?' Love the pic. Love you too!!!
