say what?

tonight we were reading connor's Bible story book and he picked the story of david. we read the first part when david is chosen to be king. the main emphasis of the lesson is that God looks on the heart. i always try to explain things in phrases and words that connor will understand.

for instance, when the book said, "would God choose someone strong and wise?" i tried to tell him that wise means smart. it means that you think, think, think. something he understands from pooh.... not my choice by the way-- i am NOT a pooh fan. although, i don't mind the show he enjoys called 'my friends tigger and pooh'... but as a whole-- NOT a fan. so he understood that, and then we came to the "God sees the heart" verse and i knew he wouldn't know what was meant by the heart. so i explained that when it says the heart it kind of means God checks our attitudes. i'm always telling him to check his attitude....to have a 'yes sir attitude'. i tell him to change his attitude... or i tell him his attitude is wrong. he loves LOVES the song "speak, o, Lord" and one of the lines says, "test our thoughts and our attitudes" .... he almost always stops and yells, "our attitudes, mommy! we should have a GOOD attitude, right?" so i thought he understood that God checks our attitudes.

when we finished the story i was asking him questions about it. i said, "so connor, it's not the most important thing to see how big and strong we are. God checks our what?" without missing a beat he raised up his elbow grabbed his little arm and said, "our blood pressure!"

after the answer he gave me i couldn't resist having him check his blood pressure. :~)

everything's lookin' good! now how's that attitude?

lovin' the doggie pack. after i got it on for him he told me he had to go to work b/c he had some meetings.

We read the story of David and Goliath tonight too! And we were NOT amused when Luke said the Giant was a big pickle. (Thanks a lot, Veggie Tales. I have to tell my m-i-l it's a NO when it comes to those retarded shows.

That blood pressure line cracks me up. Kids are hilarious. It's like when we were having family worship a year or so ago and Luke prayed about peace. I asked him if Jesus gave him peace. He said, 'Yeah! A piece of candy!" Sugar is never far from that boy's mind. :)

I'm sure it can be discouraging at times when you think you're getting somewhere, but his response is quite funny. And whether you can see it or not, the lessons you are teaching him ARE impacting him. You're such a good mama.
