big weekend

we were busy, busy, busy last weekend. and i'm still in crash mode....cleaning up can wait. :)

nathan's mom got here tuesday night, his sister and her fam (all 6 of them) got here thursday afternoon, and his dad flew in thursday night. it was a jam packed house, but we kept busy so we didn't just sit around.... or maybe i should say crawl around each other. there wasn't a single space of the floor showing at any point of the house. it was crazy funny. nathan and i had games on thursday night, so everyone was at the house for dinner while we were coaching. after my game i came home and picked everyone up so we headed to the gym for the last part of nathan's game.

the next morning was an early start, but i'm so glad we did it. we went over to greenfield village (thanks for helping get us in katey, laura, aunt elaine and gramma!!) yes, it took that many people to get us all in on free passes.... we had quite a crew. we walked around the village for the morning and the kids loved it. i loved it b/c i finally had a chance to go through the houses slowly--usually, i'm with a walking bunch or for some other reason. i haven't really gone through the houses in ages. we stopped at the hat shop, the old farm houses, edison's workshops, and we even had a chance to ride the carousel. by the time we got to the back of the village it was already noon (i had planned on getting back home around that time) so some of us rode the train back and the rest did a speed walk through history back up to the front gate. after that it was home for lunch and some major naps.

that night we were planning to hit my parentals house for a cookout/boat ride/cake for connor and nathan had a little surprise planned for the kiddies. he had arranged for a moon walk bouncy thing... of course making him the hero of the day. they loved it. by the time we got home it was off to bed and a relaxed morning before everyone had to jet on saturday. it seems fast when i write it out like this.... well, it was fast. but the prep took a lot longer than that, trust me.

nathan's mom and sister kept asking me if they could help in the kitchen.... ok, first of all, my "kitchen" is more like a hallway and i like to say it's a one person kitchen. b/c you really can't have too many people in there helping or things just get hairy..... i'm not sure if i want nathan to read this b/c he might think he's off the hook from now on.... you're NOT by the way! and second of all, this was their vacation! sit down and relax would ya?? i told them they were really pushing my buttons b/c they kept asking to help.

i made my first ever banana bread.... delightful if i may say so. i couldn't believe i actually baked something that tasted good. life's a mystery, eh?

we had a great time hanging out with everyone, and connor LOVED having the kids over. when they were leaving he was standing on the porch yelling, "BYE KIDS! SEE YA! BYE KIDS!" i'm fairly certain that he enjoyed the company, and i'm also fairly certain the we unloaded the most annoying toy in happy meal history on poor unsuspecting steven and christy. burger king was giving out toys from the simpsons movie.... stupidest show EVER.... just my opinion... and connor was awarded the unfortunate toy. it was a police officer that would say--at the push of an all too accessible button--, "stop in the name of squeamishness!" he had the most annoying cartoon voice and i was ready to trash it until nathan fiendishly gave it to hudson as steven was packing up the last of their things. i wonder how long it took before huddy hit that stupid button and steven and christy groaned in agony as they heard those most annoying words, "stop in the name of squeamishness!" i'm sure it's long been trashed, and i'm sure no one will ever miss it. but we do miss the faces of family and the fun we had when they were here. video will take some time.... i've got to empty out some space on the old memory.

nathan's mom made signs for the kids. if you can't see it says, "we love the coach. my dad." i was amazed they were all sitting. getting them to hold papers straight... now that's another story.

the buds

connor's room was kiddie kampout kraziness. he was upstairs with us in his pack-n-play.

the master suite. i'm pretty sure christy was sticking out her tongue. she was freezing, i was roasting. i guess that's what comes of 0% body fat, right, chris?

ok so as I was reading what you were saying about the kitchen my eyes started to get bigger. Thoughts running through my head "oh baby this is huge, exactly what I have been waiting for" and then you hit me right between the eyes with (it doesn't apply to me)
Ouch babe, that hurts.
I love the picture of the kids holding the signs that is my all time favorite.
Thanks

It was one of the best week-ends we've had in a long time. Thanks for everything. Yes, you can "push buttons" but just remember that when you come to Florida!!! Honestly, we loved being together again and can't wait until we see each other again real soon. (love that sign!)
PS Barb is still in 'surprise mode' that I was there waiting for her! Thanks.

Awe, looks like so much fun! That pic of the kids at the game is SO cute. Luke got to spend the weekend with his cousins too - it's so much fun as they get older and enjoy each other.

I don't think we've EVER been to BK to get a happy meal, thus have been spared the Simpsons toys. I'm glad about that, because Chris does NOT think it is the stupidest show ever, though I think he's agree that it's inappropriate for kids' toys. I'll have to tell him about "Stop in the name of sqeamishness" though. :)
