yesterday, we were off and running a little later than usual. normally, i get up and shower first, then i get brefix and pack nathan's lunch. by that time the little man is usually stirring. yesterday he woke up early so nathan beat me to the shower. when that happens i usually wait until i get him out the door, then i give connor some books in his crib so i can hit the shower before noon. so that's what i was planning. i get things set and head into the bathroom to find about three inches of water sitting in the tub. oh, boy.
our tub is a typical allen park tub and has a tendency to slow down with all the hair gel, body wash and lotion that gets gunked up in the pipes. so when it gets slow i just throw some liquid draino down there and it normally keeps moving pretty well. in fact, i hadn't done that in a while so two days earlier i had dumped down our last bottle. well this was quite a pickle. i was totally out of draino and had no car that day. i'm pretty sure showers are a must with nathan working at the warehouse (he gets pretty dirty over there), so i HAD to get this fixed and i refused to hire a plumber for this little thing. my next option was good old baking soda and vinegar. so i had to wait for the water to drain before i could try that. connor really enjoyed the bubbles that made. turns out i didn't have all that much vinegar left. so i used what i had and plunged the living daylights out of our tub. lots of gunk came up and was floating nicely in the tub....note the word "floating"...yes, the water wasn't going very fast. so i called for backup. nicole came over so i could use her car to go get more supplies. connor and ava had a great time watching the bubbles in the drain, and i plunged some more. finally, i got everything flowing and all was well.
until the next morning. no, it wasn't the tub this time. connor and i took nathan to work and had the car for the morning. i had a gift card to kohls so i wanted to see if they had anything on sale. we were having a great time, and i was loving being out in the sunshine....it was really nice out. we finished at kohls and i was heading out to the car....hmm....the passenger side sure looks low. oh, boy. flat tire.
so i got in the car and called my hero. nathan jumped in a truck from work and mike got him some supplies to rescue me. in no time flat he was there with this majorly huge car jack that could have lifted an f-350, and then we jetted over to sams to get it fixed. the sams people were super nice to get it done right away...especially since neither of us had our sams cards on hand.
ok, a funny college story just popped into my head. every year it seemed i had a permanent "riding buddy" that would come with me from icbc to nbbc during school breaks. one year it was ryan my high school bud. in that year (it may have been in a two week time frame) we had 5 flat tires! it got so annoying that we started timing how fast ryan could change a tire. in fact i have pictures from one of the flats --auntie brenda, i think you were there that time, remember? i'm pretty sure that was the last time he asked for a ride home. ryan was pretty fast, but nathan kicked his hiney with this huge jack. he even joked that he was going to bring the cordless super drill and pretend he was a nascar pit crew. i thought that would have been hilarious. can you just imagine nathan jumping out of the truck and pulling a nascar move in the parking lot of kohls?? too funny.
so that has made for some fun in the past few days. kind of exciting fun. now if i could just fix that dishwasher....... :)

Too funny - I was reading and thought "Hey - she had a flat tire when I rode with her and Ryan and David that time - - - I was there!" and then you said I was there. I do remember thinking, "Note to self - don't ride with Christina without a "towing" card or a list of helpful phone numbers!!) I just remember that we rode the whole rest of the way home on a "donut" tire! eEEESSSSHH - those WERE the days!
I need to get the "recipe" for the concoction you used - Melvindale drains and Allen Park drains must be cousins - and I've never heard of using that to unclog them.
What an exciting week you've had! I didn't know that about baking soda and vinegar. I'll store that one away. Have you seen the movie Cars? When you talked about Nathan doing the pit crew thing in the Kohl's parking lot, little Luigi came into my head. :) Go, Luigi, go! Here's to a boring week for you!

Our dishwasher door won't latch, thus won't run! Augh! I'm hoping it will be resolved soon, because I was loving having a dishwasher!

i had forgotten about it until just the other day. haven't had a flat in a while. :)
i have all sorts of homemade concoctions from gramma sanders. pretty much anything can be accomplished with baking soda, vinegar or ammonia. as long as there's no standing water, i put a few spoonfuls of baking soda down the drain and then hit it with enough vinegar to get that "volcano" reaction. it's worked as a good maintenance....watch i'll find out that it's eating my pipes or something. :)
