snow day today......sort of. obviously nathan had to go to work. he took time to note, however, that if he were still teaching he would have had the day off. it did take quite a while to get out of the driveway. this was our first big snowfall of the year....at least 6 inches. not too shabby and it's sunny so it looks spectacular. i was supposed to babysit and b/c of the hiddeous weather karen decided to work from home. probably a good call. i heard our major streets were still nasty around these parts until well after lunch. b/c it took so long to dig out, nathan got to enjoy a special valentine's brefix. i cut heart shaped holes in some buttered bread and cook some scrambled eggs into the heart shape. my sister had a cookbook for kids that had that idea in it when we were younger and i have loved it as a special way to make eggs. it's fun and fairly easy.
well, since our "exciting days" not much has happened on the homefront worth mentioning. i suppose i shouldn't say there's been nothing.....life with connor is ALWAYS exciting. why just the other day i had to pull his grimy little hands from the toilet AGAIN. that little rascal has quite an affinity for water...any water. he doesn't mind if it's the disgusting water that's in our toilet. in fact, he doesn't even seem to mind if someone is sitting on the toilet. one day while babysitting i was downstairs starting some laundry, and i came up to the sound of one of the girls saying, "no, connor, no. go out. you can't come in here." i figured she had gone into the bathroom and couldn't shake her shadow--he LOVES following the girls everywhere. well, i was close to right. she was actually sitting on the toilet and he was playing in the water behind her. yeah, gross. and yes, if you're wondering.....the toilet seat is almost always down. i try very hard to remind the girls to put it down, and they are doing pretty good with that.
since we got so much snow, my mom called and said she would bring lunch over for us.....so she could see the kids, i'm sure. so we gathered at my house and chowed. mickey d's, subway, and moe's. my mom and i wanted moe's, but prego nic denied the moe-meister....she's been very into subs lately. and nuggets for the kiddies, of course. only a gramma would go to three places for 5 lunches.
i'm also happy to report that connor is showing some signs of intelligence. i had been asking him for about 3 months now, "connor, show me your nose." nothing. "connor where's your nose?" nada. i even made it a game, "let's rub noses!" zippo. i thought, "surely i've altered his base of knowledge somehow. that's it! no more tv!! you will read national geographic pop up books and listen to language tapes from now on!" well, i didn't go that far, but i really was beginning to wonder. then one day i was changing his diaper and he points to his belly and says, "belly". what in the stink?? i didn't even teach him belly!!! i know people always say, "babies will do things when THEY are ready." yeah, no joke. if there's ever been a more perfect example of this i couldn't tell ya. connor was 4 days earlier than his due date, he didn't crawl until he was 11 1/2 mos, and he didn't even attempt to walk until he was 16 1/2 mos. i used to put him just out of arms reach of his favorite toys and it was like a staring contest.
me: just crawl to your toys buddy.
connor: i don't need toys.
me: don't you want to play?
connor: i'll just sit here and watch you.
me: don't you want this bright, colorful, squishy, fun toy?
connor: wouldn't you rather just give up and come over here and get me?
me: no, i'm the adult. you will not win.
connor: that's fine. i don't have to win. i just have to make sure you know that i don't want to move. i quite enjoy being a blob.
me: whatever. i have things to do.
connor: ok. i'll just be here. you go ahead.
*20 minutes later i move him to sweep*
connor thinks: i knew she'd cave.
so after that it was like, "yeah, and here's what else i've been working on....." he showed me his hair, belly, mouth, and yes....nose. he loves to tell what a lion says. he can also meow like a cat and moo like a cow. he's always "on the phone" with ava. and if he's not talking to her he's just yelling her name through the house. it seems he thinks that ava can "beam in" from wherever she is....rain or shine, if he calls her, she should be there.
alright, i'm going to start a little test. you will notice in future posts that i will randomly place a certain name throughout my writing. one of my uncles.....the one that consistenly tells me he doesn't read my posts but only looks for pictures and his name....will be under surveillance. i will be randomly entering his name to see if he notices. i'm just going to plop it in every once in a while to see what happens. so don't think i'm crazy or that i have tons of typos...this is only a test.
friday is the rodeo......i am excited for that! i love going and now that that kids both know what cows are, it may be more fun for them. i will definitely post pictures as soon as they are on my camera.
today is valentine's day and i'm happy to say that i have two of the best valentine's ever. my two boys are such a joy to me and i am so thankful that the Lord has blessed me with them. if you know nathan you know how much fun life can be with that guy, and connor is definitely a mini version of daddy. he's a crack up.
so have a wonderful valentine's day and enjoy our snow day pictures.

We had a snow day here as well! Though it sounds like, for once, northeast Ohio got more snow than our Michigan neighbors. It's still snowing out there tonight and it looks like a winter wonderland outside!
Oh yes, that's so true about toddlers doing what they want when they're good and ready. But, I'd encourage you to keep on pushing Connor and trying to teach him things even if it seems like he's not getting it. It's like their brains are always working and watching and absorbing.
Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day! Will you and Nathan get to have a date night?
This weekend we had old friends from out of town stay with us - we just got back from a winter camp so I sent Caleb in to use the potty and I hear him saying no stop that, don't do that - I go in and there is there little girl splashing in the toilet as Caleb was going. I was embarressed so se washed her hands then come back from cleaning church and her mom tells me she had to wash Titus up b/c he had also played in the toilet while I was gone - I really thought I was giving him plenty of baths already - you know? :)
Way to go, Connor! Luke was a slow one with the whole talking thing. Now, if he doesn't know what to say, he just says, "What's that? What's that?" OVER AND OVER. I'm waiting patiently for him to be ready for the potty. Hopefully that skill will come soon. Nic may have told you, he can have some killer diapers; I think changing his diaper a few weeks ago gave poor prego Nic a setback. :)
