the big fix

when it rains it pours, right? just when i thought things were settling down around here too. i'm sure my avid readers remember my dishwasher situation ....you're both up to speed on that, right? the other day nathan and i were talking about it and we decided to try it again. i had run the cycle once before and marked where i thought it was stopping (sort of getting stuck). so i went ahead and filled it up and every fifteen minutes i was marking the dial like rain man.

"dishwasher's broken. course, it seems to get stuck. have to wash the dishes. yeah. yeah."

and as i suspected, it stopped in the same spot as before. i left my previous mark and used a different color marker this time so not to get confused......christina DOES know her colors. (way old family joke....nevermind). so i popped it to the next spot on the dial and it seems we are in business. marvelous. if you ask my sister about this, she will swear that she told me to do this weeks ago and i am just a stupid head for not listening to her. but i got busy around the house and i never wanted to sit around and watch my dishwasher to see if it got stuck again, so that's why i was handwashing for a while. and it wasn't all that bad. the negatives don't outweigh the positives of having the convenience. i just have to run it during the day (which i don't like to do) and i have to remember to check it after approximately 30 minutes.

wonderful. on to the next task. getting the hair off the bathroom floor. i shed like a sheepdog. everywhere in my house you can find random hairs. on the couch, every square inch of the floor, in connor's mouth--yucka!--on and on it goes. and i am always sweeping the floor and swiffering after, so it's not like i don't try to defeat this beast. my hair just doesn't quit. every once in a while i get sick of sweeping my minuscule bathroom and i resort to the vacuum. it's easy, it's fast, and i don't have to shake out my rugs that way. the only problem is connor's fear of the vacuum. i'm pretty sure it haunts his dreams b/c just the sight of it sends him scurrying and poochy-lipping. i've tried many things to soften the blow. i've tried holding him so he can hear my voice saying it's okay. i thought maybe being up high would help him feel bigger than his nemisis. then i tried just leaving him in another room. he recently told me that made him feel abandoned and he had some issues with separation anxiety. finally, i resorted to my gut instinct. GET OVER IT. i tell him every time i'm about to use it, "connor, this is going to be LOUD! remember? LOUD!" then i say, "here we go!" and let 'er rip. now that he can walk, he seems to be getting better at dealing with it. he can just walk farther away. so today, i started it up and he whipped out the pooch. "oh, great...here we go again. it's okay, buddy! see?" i tried consoling him from a distance.....i kept saying, "it's okay" with a big dorky smile on my face. feverishly working on vacuuming the rugs b/c the mom in me wants to see her baby happy, even though the tally in me wants him to suck it up. i was almost done with the first rug and i looked up to say, "it's okay" one more time.......smoke was billowing out of the vacuum. "oh, boy. it's not okay. it's not okay!" he just stood there with his chubby little cheeks looking despondent.

so we ripped it open to see if we could fix the problem. just a broken belt. nothing i haven't seen before. so the little man and i worked on the vacuum together....it's not as scary when it's guts are spilled on the floor and you get to play with daddy's tools.

the video i took cracks me up. it just goes to show how genetics play a role in the shaping of your personality. this little boy is JUST LIKE HIS DADDY!!! and i love it!!!

If he weren't so stinkin' cute I'd feel kinda bad telling you this . . . I think there's long brown hair on his shirt sleeve! :)

Once again Christina to the rescue. We enjoyed breakfast and a show. I can hardly wait to show Hal this...Connor is on the right track to being a MAN. :) Love it!

you should hear nathan right now...."man, i can't wait for golf." seems the little man is just following in his footsteps. :) he loves to "fix" things with his tools, but he loves to golf more. :)

I love Connor's response of "Yeah, yeah, yeah!" when you asked him if he could fix it. Adorable! He sounds like quite the copycat. And his thank you is really clear. Maybe you need to get your hair chopped? Would that help the shedding problem?

yeah, after i watched it a few times it sounded like he was saying "sorry" too. he's had to say that to his cousin ava quite a bit lately. :)
you know, i never thought of it. i remember always shedding even when i had shorter styles...it may not have been as bad though....but after connor my hair changed a bit. i think it's gotten worse. ah, well. i do have an appointment next month to get a trim up though, so i'll have to ask their professional oppinion. :)
