early saturday

we started out the door at 7 am. no i'm not a sale shopper. we were dropping daddy off with grampa to go hunting. i decided to drop him off so i could have the car all day, and b/c my dad was cooking brefix. free food? and i didn't have to cook it? sure, i'm in. well, the guys were out the door by 8 and i thought, i could go home and take my shower, give connor a nap, but then i wouldn't get to target until after lunch. i'm just going for it.

so the little man and i headed out to tarjay looking frightful. hair was going every whichaway, connor had graham cracker on his coat..... at least i had put on jeans and a sweatshirt. what did i have to lose? pride? oh, that's been long gone. if i didn't lose it all in high school and college, surely i lost it when connor was born. i was a physical mess from the time we checked into the hospital until he was at least 3 months. i was pleasantly surprised to get there and find other moms in worse shape than me. we all fit quite well together. getting out early, before showers, before makeup, before the kids were coherent enough to beg for toys and goodies. every once in a while you'd see a "polly put-together", but you knew she was out of place. everyone was looking at her like, "honey, this is early morning shopping, not a fashion show." perhaps she was on her way to work, or an all day event. it matters not....the sweatshirts and jeans were in the majority.

i was able to get the last of things for nathan's stocking, and a little something for connor. he's still oblivious, so i can buy his presents when he's with me. of course, that oblivious nature doesn't always work in my favor. connor likes to watch cartoons for all of 5 minutes, unless they're singing. so i let him watch when he eats brefix or lunch. sometimes when he's playing in the living room, i'll put it on when it's his favorite show.....handy manny. well, it's my favorite show. he only watches when they sing. but he loves it, and i really like it too. so friday was a handy manny marathon and i got totally sucked in. connor wasn't even paying attention, but i watched 3 shows in a row. pathetic.

it's really a cute show. manny is the town fix-it man, and he goes to jobs with his trusty tools. he has two screwdrivers--turner and felipe, pliers named squeeze, a pipe wrench named rusty, a saw--dusty, a tape measure called stretch, and pat, who frequently tells everyone he is a hammer. he's not so bright...but hey, bang some nails with your head all day and see how quick on the draw you are. i like it b/c it's boyish, no one is snotty or mean or disrepectful. and yeah, i'm sure their main goal was to hold hands and love everyone, but that's not the dominant theme. teamwork and kindness, civic duty and hard work fits better. and they have catchy tunes. mr. lopart is manny's neighbor who is always trying to fix things..... but can't. and the funniest thing about him is that he has a major combover that always ends up flipping around when he falls down. it's hilarious.

last night was a delightful surprise. nathan and mike were working late at the warehouse, so i invited nic and ava over for dinner. my dad called at about 5 and asked if we wanted to go to the hoops game. nic wanted to get ava home and in bed on time, but connor had taken a long nap so i knew he would be good to go. well, when my parents got there they were so thrilled to see the kidos, we zorched the ball game and decided to stay home and watch rudolph (which sadly lost out to ring around the rosies anyway). ava ate half of my candy cane--those little chompers were workin' overtime. but it was fun after all.

and i am happy to report that our cable bill is only going up $4. we're gonna keep it as long as we can since it's not changing as drastically as we thought. and i must say, i dealt with a delightful representative from wow. he was courteous, quick, and spoke clear english. customer service is a big deciding factor. but i still have some homework to do with dish and comcast.

ah, well. happy saturday.

I had an absolutely delightful morning that involved sleeping in and watching two episodes of Monk because Luke was at his grandparents'. SO nice. I was completely lazy and talked myself out of going out and running errands. I cleaned two bathrooms though, so that's worth something. :)

Don't be embarrassed about liking kids' cartoons so much. My fav. is probably Little Einsteins. Right now I'm LOVING watching "The Night Before Christmas" on the Family channel. You know, the one with the clockmaker and mice. I wanted to buy this on DVD for Luke but couldn't find it. Too bad he's taking a nap and can't watch it with me. :)

Sorry to write a whole post in your comments section. :)
