fall is the BEST!

i love these days. brisk, chilly mornings. comfortable afternoons. delightful evenings. but don't blink. you'll miss it if you do. during the month of august i don't enjoy going out too much. it's usually pretty hot. fall is my favorite, but i love those warm days of summer in june and july. august always seemed oppressive to me. well, michigan august. hot a sticky. no breeze for miles. the only place that is remotely enjoyable is the cabin. but then, the last week of august.......

the air gets mild. a few good rain showers green everything up before the long sleep. and then i know it's time. my favorite time of year. i have to enjoy it before it truly starts or it will pass by to quickly. i make myself take deep breaths and look at all the trees around me. even the ugly purple leaves that disappointed me during my childhood. (we had a purple leaf tree in our front yard. since it was purple all year i expected stunning fall colors from it. it just turns another weird shade of purpley-green.) i go on more walks. now, i take connor to the park. and when the leaves are their best, i go to the cabin for one spectacular color display. even if there are a few hot days left, that's okay. to me it's fall already.

i have had some good walks lately. katie came over with luke and we raced the rain clouds to the park. (we just barely beat them.) but we had a good time. although, poor luke was so gung-ho about getting on the slides i didn't have time to warn kt about the puddle situation. he slid right through a big one and had a wet bohonkus the rest of the time. he could've cared. this was the first time we've seen each other since they moved back to motown. but hopefully we'll be planning a "no kids" gilmore night once we get our hands on the dvds. chris, it is NOT a stupid show. not everyone can be a smarty pants with higher intellectual goals like you. just give us our girl nights, okay?

i went rollerblading with nic yesterday morning. both of us were sore from our workouts the day before, so we just did one lap and then picked up jackson for a short walk to finish out. then that evening, nathan was working so connor and i went up to the bank to deposit some money (always a fun trip:) but the atm was out of envelopes AAAARRRGHHHHH! this money has to be in.....like yesterday! oh, well nothing i could do. so i headed home. and then i heard this cute little voice yelling my name. it was kara!! so i went over to say hi, and ended up chatting away for a good long time. i had only been able to see her for a quick minute after church one morning and then we had to go pick up the food for fam lunch. so it was nice to get to chat. kara is the kind of person that will make anyone feel like she's known them forever. i only really knew her for three months. and after that only through casual email. but everytime i see her we can chat away like old friends.

oh, here's a good one. i made check up doc appointments for connor and me for next week. i figured i should get them all done and out of the way while we had tip money to cover the expense. i called and made mine for the 20th and connor's for the 21st. then papa calls and asks if connor and i can do lunch at wayne state on the 20th. so i told him we could if i can just move my appt. to a later time. i called the doc's office and said, "i have an appt. for next wednesday at 10a. could i switch it to a later time that day?" the nurse says, "we aren't in on wednesdays." so i said, "oh, brother did i write it down wrong?" *****I KNOW I DIDN'T WRITE IT DOWN WRONG!!! I ALWAYS SPECIFICALLY ASK THE RECEPTIONIST TO REPEAT THAT INFO. TO ME SO I CAN DOUBLE CHECK WHAT I WROTE.***** i just said that to be nice and avoid conflict. so this whole time i'm thinking....that dingy receptionist wrote me in on wednesday the 20th and didn't realize it was an out of the office day. so i hung up and told nicole, "i know i didn't write it down wrong. i'm positive it was the 20th! but i just don't want to make a big deal of it." and she says, "yeah, b/c sometimes when you get upset about it you end up being wrong". yeah, i thought. no biggie. i'll just go in on tuesday, the 19th. b/c that's what she told me over the phone. well, they must have started talking in the office about me calling and writing down the wrong day. b/c the lady called back a little while later and said, "oops, it wasn't the 19th. it was the 20th". YES!!!!! I KNEW I WAS RIGHT!!!! she told me the 19th without looking at the book and now she's calling to appologize. "the 20th of OCTOBER." ouch. so i told her i was a goofball and that i was sorry for the trouble. but it really wasn't a big deal. she and i are grand friends. nathan came to many of my pregnancy check up appointments and the ladies loved him. they still ask about him. it's quite ridiculous. the few times he wasn't able to come. they would say a quick hi to me and immediately ask, "oh, where's your husband?" and they would be so disappointed when i told them he had some other responsibility. we would always joke when i got home that he was the patient and i was just the storage pod.

hopefully, tonight we will be on a date.....without connor. i'm gonna ship the little man off to grampa land and get some dinny din with my honey and some friends.

so these are pretty random pics. i've taken over the past few days.

this was sunday after church. he won't take naps anymore in the nursery, so he is always really tired when we get home. i try to get him lunch before his nap but he fell asleep mid cracker this time. i heard him jabbering away and chomping a ritz....next thing i know he's out cold. it was hilarious.

the was the first time connor enjoyed swinging. he didn't like going very fast though. but i'm sure he will soon.

hey, you weren't lying, mom. swinging IS fun! momma jo-g, check out my new kicks....they finally fit!! :)

poor luke. but he had a blast. wet butt and all.

say cheese!

woodchips, huh? can i eat 'em? aw, nuts.

we stopped at nic's on the way home. ava and luke are hunting down some goldfish crackers that fell under connor's stroller.

can i have a cracker?

hmmm.....how can i trick him out of those goldfish???

luke, we can still be good buddies. even though you don't have any pants on.....that's cool. sometimes i don't wear pants too. at times i find them restricting.

connor, i like wearing pants. they were just wet from the slide, remember?

sure, man. whatever.

The pic of Ava cracks me up - it so looks like she's trying to connive the goldfish away from Connor. Nice caption on the last pic too - he could be wearing a speedo you know.

I got my bum kicked on a killer-long walk at the park this morning with women from church. They were all at least 20 years older than me. Yikes. We gotta go on a serious walk next week. Then we can talk Gilmore Girls and get serious about planning that night. A night of King of Queens wouldn't be too shabby either. It would be fun to share the laughs.

So, It's 11:15 PM right now, and Luke is wide awake thanks to a night with his great-auntie so Chris & I could out for a date. They sugared him up (DQ at 8:30pm) and sent him home. He's currently jumping on Chris' back. I think Chris is half asleep. Grrrr.

kt-
yeah, we should plan a route. or go walk a cool trail somewhere.

11:15!! yikes. connor was up until 10--wired as well. but not from sugar. he was just climbing on grampa's couch and being a boy. granny b was watching both kids and monsters inc. when we got back. ava was watching the movie, connor was attacking the couch. :)
