lazy day with a cherry on top

i'm not cleaning today. i've decided. there's tons i could do, but i just don't want to so i'm taking the day off. this morning i got up and thought i would get my shower in before connor woke up. well, the little booger woke up at 6:30a so that didn't happen. so we got some brefix and watched the news.

btw, i'm am very disappointed that the fda hasn't figured out just what kind of spinach has the e. coli. i have a box of dole spinach in my fridge, and i'm not throwing it out until they know for sure. they said don't eat bagged spinach. well what about the boxed kind? which brand? where was it grown? hello!! that's $3.00 that i would like to eat and not throw away! so it's staying in the fridge until they figure this out. i mean, i don't want to foolishly eat something that might be contaminated, but i already did eat some of it and i'm not sick yet. maybe i'll just soak it in warm water and then eat it.

so the morning sludged on and i was still unshowered. i didn't want to take a shower leaving connor out and about.....who knows what would happen. and i didn't want him to sit in his crib b/c then he might fall asleep. see, i was trying to keep him awake so he'd just take one long nap today since he's going to grampa and granny b's tonight. so i had this great idea. call nic and see if she wanted to take the kids to the park. we both felt like cheese balls since neither one of us had showered. but we both just wanted to get the kids out of the house until after lunch.

we hit the park at the school thinking we had missed recess....but we were wrong. recess was just running a little late. we got some good swing time in before the kids came out though. and we did get to see dillon (out for gym class) and hope (out for recess).

as we were chatting our way out of the park (jean and evie are always great to talk to) i got a phone call. tomorrow is HAWK FEST! what? it's tomorrow?? and papa called us today? nicole gave him a good tongue lashing and then we decided on how we were going to get out to count the hawks as they flew overhead on their way to warmer, food enriched land.

so nic is on the phone with gramma. she says papa has just gone into the church. nicole says, "we're at the church!" gramma says, "yes, i'm at the church" after a quick rendition of 'who's on first' we figured out that they had called us from the parking lot. so we went over and saw them for a few minutes.

well, our plans have changed for the night. our friends ditched us.....not really. but we are still going out on a real live DATE!! no connor....love him as i do there's still need for a nice quiet evening with nathan.

this hat makes me look cool, huh mom?

hope was making connor cackle

i thought it was so funny that connor really started to laugh once he saw how much ava loved the swings. it was like he looked for her approval of this activity.

now THIS is sweet!!
he was kicking his legs and cracking up.

hey, guys...isn't it funny how papa whistles like a bird? i love it!

julie, here's gramma in one of her stylish outfits....what you can't see is that her olive pants match her olive shoes.....so in style!

our papa is cool....even though he wears suspenders.

I'm feeling the same way about my spinach. Thankfully, we've eaten most of our bag and no bad e.coli for us . . . yet.

Explain more about hawk fest? Is that just a family tradition?

What's on Connor's cute hat?

hawk fest is pretty much what it sounds like. we go to a metropark and count migrating hawks. they have crafts and fun stuff for kids. they usually have a huge eagles nest you can climb into, and a climbing wall. they actually sell t-shirts that say, "got hawks?" kind of weird but papa is a big bird watcher so all the cousins usually get invited to stuff like this. in october we watch the sandhill cranes migrate. we're just weird that way. :)

Okay, Grandma may have GREAT put-together outfits, but I declare that your Grandpa has more logo t-shirts than anybody I know. I've never seen him in the same one twice. [Not that I see him all that often - but he DOES have a lot!]

And oh. my. heart. We now now totally what Connor is going to look like at your Grandpa's age - they share a lot of similarities!

Hope the date was fun!!!!!!! :) Well, I'm off to make some chili popcorn and watch "my boys" play a little game called football!
