love my sweeties

last night wasn't straight out of a serta commercial, but it wasn't horrible…. as nights of broken sleep go. megs woke up at 2:30a. no bad dream this time. PHEW! initially it sounded like it would take a while to calm her down. she was really crying. but when i got in her room she explained that her pillow pet had fallen down. quite dramatic for just a pillow pet falling. but it was resolved quickly and she didn't require her usual back scratch… a common occurrence after bad dreams. at 3:30a i woke up again. i don't remember exactly, but i think that was just a potty trip. i'm so used to that trip i can do it in my sleep. well, not total sleep, but close enough that i can barely remember actually being awake.

then nathan had to get up extra early. i was pretty groggy during his morning routine, but as soon as he left i was starting to stir. i thought about snuggling back into my covers, but then i heard a very wide awake sounding meg. "MOM! can i be awake now?" 6:30a… yowzas, girl. since she woke up so early i let her watch a cartoon… a mammoth treat for a school morning.

then just after 7a i decided to wake up the little man. do you ever have those times when you sneak a peek at your sleeping child and they look just like the baby version of themselves? today was one of those rare times. i was looking down on baby connor, and it made me smile. then i woke him up and he quickly reminded me that he's a 6-yr-old boy. i asked how his night was and he responded in his best charles barkley impersonation, "turrible… turrible.. it was just turrible." which means it was great and he woke up in a good enough mood to respond as sir charles.

normally, it takes him a good 10 minutes to wake up enough to be interested in brefix. only two things can make him jump out of bed. 1) if i say, "dad's still here." 2) if i say, "you can watch one cartoon this morning." so, when i told him he was getting to watch one show and that i made the classic heart pancakes for valentine's day, he perked right up. he threw his arms around me and said, "you're the best!"

and then came the part that finished off my melt-a-thon. i had seen a picture of really cool door streamers for valentine's day. i love love LOVE decorating their doors. every birthday i decorate with streamers, balloons, and signs, so this was right up my alley. when connor was squeezing my neck he caught a glimpse of the streamers hanging from his door and he gasped. he thought it was so cool. and said, "best.mom.ever!"

it's a wonder i could walk out the door …. let alone have the strength to hit the gym for cycle class. serious mommy melt. and it was so worth it.

Oh how very precious those "mommy melts" can be!! I have had several in my children's younger years. Now I have "day time melts" of the memories of them as small children and they are all grown and married and have their own children. Wow, hope you have many more. You will hold each in your heart forever! Love you!
