alone time

last night i had some serious alone time. nathan was gone. i was supposed to head to a friend's house, so my kids were going to my parents' for a sleepover. well, my friend had to postpone her party b/c her little girl wasn't well, so i had A LOT of free time on my hands. i.was.giddy. i didn't know what to do… hit the mall? soak my feet? watch a movie? do anything uninterrupted??? the possibilities were endless. i really had a hard time deciding. i decided to wing it. i had some kohl's gift cards burning a hole in my pocket from christmas. first stop… drop the kids. next… hit hohl's and see what was on clearance.

i found a few things to try on, but they fizzled. i wrestled with my next decision. i knew i needed a new swimsuit for this summer since both of mine were fairly see through and have since gone to their final resting place. but trying on swimsuits is worse than going to the dentist. i'd rather stick needles in my eyes. ESPECIALLY in the winter. what it is about winter months that make me feel larger than reality? don't get me wrong… i'm fairly comfortable in my body. sure, i could drop a few pounds, but i rarely obsess about it. and it's not like i ever turn down food… that would just be stupid. (it's so TASTY!) :) and i pretty much live at the pool during summer, so it's not like i have a big issue with being in my suit. but in the winter, with all those lights glaring in the dressing room i feel abnormally uncomfortable. regardless, i had the cards and the suits were on sale. i bit the bullet and tried on a handful. i ended up finding two that i liked. we'll see if they pass the "home try on" inspection. once i get them home i can decide what they actually look like. never looks the same in the dressing room.

after that, i decided to get some dinner… another gift card! :) while i waited for that i hit the old navy on the hill. the kids are growing like weeds and putting serious holes in the knees of their jeans. and this was one of their $10 jean weekends. i finished that up rather quickly and headed to applebees to snag my order. i was pretty pumped to sit down and watch an entire movie, while eating a HOT dinner, and then soak my feet without having to stop any of those activities to help someone find something, wipe something, or any other anything possible. it was refreshing. i had tried to find a rental of downton abbey (my latest obsession) but couldn't. i ended up buying the first season on dvd just to catch up. i'll be selling it later this month on ebay if you're interested. :) it was on sale at target, and i bet nathan i could get enough out of it on ebay to offset the cost. he thinks i'll only get $5 for it. i think it could go for more. (got any good ideas to what our wager should be???)

so there i sat. scrubbed feet, full belly, smile on my face.

it only took me two hours to miss every stinkin' one of them. i am so glad that i got the time alone, but i am equally grateful for every interruption. my mom used to tell me that life with little ones can't be planned or scheduled. it's just a series of interruptions. to this day i don't think she can sit down for an entire movie. it's that deeply ingrained in her now. well, she's gonna have to sit still for a movie at some point. i'm plotting to get her hooked on downton.
