there are only two of them. and they're little. very little. and i'm old…. mildly old. but how is it that their energy levels skyrocket the MINUTE we step through the door of any establishment? it's crazy. and it's not like we don't have any sort of discipline system in place. they KNOW what happens when they spaz out. it's like punishment is a bug zapper and they are mosquitoes. drawn to the light…. i don't own a bug zapper, so don't think i use it as a real punishment. simile, people.
so meijers wasn't horrible. only one little moment of "mom eyes" for the little man. he's big into helping find things now which has helped immensely. but then we headed to value world to scrounge up some school jeans. insanity. dancing. running. fighting. yelling. i almost resorted to bribery. seriously. i was at my wits end. but then i decided…since we only saw one pair of jeans anyhow… that we would just leave and MOMMY would get a treat. besides, *i* was good. so i headed to tim hortons and ordered up an iced capp… and NOTHING else. my evil side came out. i was going to show them…. see my treat you evil munchkins? you missed out on some serious timbits. oh, how delicious! mmmm…….and then i dripped iced capp all over my shorts. ok, so that wasn't my most shining moment of motherhood.
my kids aren't horrible. they respond to discipline. really, they do. but you know those days when you feel like ALL you do is correct and discipline? it's been like that. those days where you're really in the trenches. fighting the good fight. driving the foolishness right out of them.
and so, we press on.
gotta say, iced capps make it easier. :)

How'd they respond to not getting a treat? Did that work?
My kids can be exactly the same way in public! Not always but often enough to make me think they just get really wired and excited about being out and about. And I'm usually extra on-edge because I'm juggling them AND trying to grocery shop AND trying to make the general public think my kids are not spoiled maniacs.
Hang in there, fellow mama! Hoping tomorrow is a shining lovely good-behavior day!
i got a pretty fast, "i'm sorry. please forgive me." :)
i feel the same way! on edge…. even without caffeine. thanks for the kind words. :)
hear, hear! It must be something about Meijer. And actually, one day two weeks ago I decided to "treat" them to a TV Kart? BAAAAAAD idea. We will never do that again. It's much better when I do my shopping game where Aaron has to find and put the items from the list in the cart. We're still working on not throwing bread. LOL. But that takes waaaaay too much energy as of late.
All that to say - hang in there. You are definitely not alone. Although, grocery shopping alone has never been so much fun!
