but we headed to gallup park in ann arbor for a fun day. my dad did a good job. he raced in the c-1 and in the c-2. he didn't do as well as he wanted in the c-1, but he and his partner finished well in the c-2. i thought he did fine. he had enough energy to yell hi to us. we were stationed on a bridge that crossed the river, and each time my dad passed under the bridge (the race went upstream as well as down) connor wanted to yell to grampa. the park was really nice. there was a trail that went along the river, so people could actually see the race. most times, you watch the start and the finish and you wait for an hour our two in between. i hope they do another race there next year b/c it was a great place to see a race and hang out.
a lady from the ann arbor news covered the race and kept following my mom around asking questions. every time my mom would try and introduce her to another person that could give her more information the lady would somehow find her way back to my mom. but b/c of it we were mentioned in the paper. you can read about it here.
between races we went for a little walk and found this hummingbird and butterfly garden. there were bunches of butterflies but we missed out on hummingbirds.
i was taking pictures of connor in front of some of the flowers and he ran over to this section and yelled, "oh, mama! let's take a picture with THESE flowers!"

Actually, that shot of you in the canoe is amazing! Looks like it belongs on a motivational poster titled something like 'Determination!'
