it all started innocently enough. a little chinese food (the fake american kind--right, carol? we should start calling it that.... "fake american chinese food"), a little splenda strawberry shortcake and no sugar added ice cream..... seriously, with my mom's family history it's amazing that she's not yet an insulin dependent diabetic. but she works out like a fiend and eats way little sugar and carbs..... a little hangin' out with the fam. just an innocent birthday party for bb (that's what the kids call her if you haven't picked that up yet).
well, connor was in a funk b/c he had some....ehem....belly issues. so he gets SUPER picky about food when that happens. i wasn't about to force him to eat chinese so i asked if i could scramble him an egg... the of course, ava wanted eggs. connor had jello and ava wanted some too.... i probably ticked off mike and nicole so much that night. ava is SUCH a good eater and i've never heard her complain about what is on her plate. she knows that what mom and dad put on there is what she's eating. nic and i are sort of similar in that way b/c if we know our kids genuinely don't like something we don't force it down their throats, but for the most part.... they get what they get or they get nothing. once dinner was over the kids were playing just fine and we enjoyed our shortcakes.
when everyone was getting ready to leave i realized we hadn't sung happy birthday, so i told everyone to sit down and sing. even if it was to an unconventional shortcake with a flower candle just sitting on a plate. well, apparently connor didn't get to sing the "cha cha cha's" of the birthday song and he was devastated. we were singing too fast for him to get them in and catch up with us.... nicole started the song (in her pretty voice) and we took off with it before the little guy could do his favorite part. so connor was crying, nicole was singing like she was trying out for american idol, liela was sitting there looking stunned, and i was cracking up thinking of the little man's teen years when we would look back at this video and laugh.
so my mom got her gift .... we made her an apron with the kids hand prints on it. which apparently, my dad wants too b/c he already placed his order stating very clearly that he should've received this in the first place since he does all the cooking. true. but like i've said before, my parents are the hardest people in the world to get gifts for b/c they tell you an idea and then they go out and buy it themselves. like i said, my family is nuts. if we weren't so stinkin' cute we just might not be as lovable...... nah.

alright, here are the videos..... remember, you'll hear nicole singing directly into my camera with her pretty voice, connor will be crying b/c he was genuinely upset about not being able to give bb her cha cha cha's, nathan and i both thought that we would have to take connor out for some serious attitude adjustments, and ava is just thinking, "what IS this kid's deal???"

Fantastic apron! I can see why it's so coveted. Isn't it crazy how toddlers get upset about silly things?!? Very good of you to redo the birthday song so Connor could do his cha cha chas. His little upset face and pouty lips are so cute!
Your fam's not all that crazy. That's exactly how it would have went down at my family's house if Gavin was in a mood. I love how that poochy lip started to come on slowly in the first vid. Too funny!
Oh that is great!! Connor's poochy lip and response to "being left out" remind me so much of how my Silas would respond--the difference being, Silas would be far more ANGRY about it. . it gave me a good laugh! Oh, and Ava pulling her hand away from Mike during the "cha cha cha's" was rather humorous as well.

i honestly thought he was mad at first that's why i stopped taping b/c i thought we were going to have a little attitude adjustment time...haha! my first reaction is always, "ok, who needs some serious discipline?" then when nathan was talking to him he found out he was just really upset and sad.
even these few days later after i posted the video he wanted to watch it.... he started to get all teary eyed again!! it was cute and sad at the same time. so i turned it off and switched to the second video...crisis averted!
and yes, i cracked up at ava too. i wondered if anyone would spot that. miss independent. :)

You know how sometimes you sound good in your head and when you hear it on tape its not as good. Not me...I was more beautiful on tape than ever before.
I love the poochy lip too. One question though - WHY has Nicole not gone out for American Idol? :)
