"hello-dy" partner

this is how connor says, "howdy partner". it's hilarious. last week, when i told him we were going to the rodeo we watched some rodeo clips on youtube and talked about cowboys. he went around all week saying "hello-dy partner" and wearing his little cowboy hat. he would ask me at random times to see "cows on tv" i didn't know what he meant until i realized he wanted to watch more rodeo videos online.

the rodeo was fun this year. in year's past it's been on friday, saturday, and sunday afternoon. this year it was only thursday and friday.... it's never been a huge money maker for the palace and i found out that tonight the spice girls are supposed to be in town. boy, i sure wish we could've gotten tickets to that! HA!

there were a few slight differences to the show this year.... there was a long story time at the beginning (i think they did that last year). it went through a history of cowboys, and riders came out to act out mini-scenes. it would have been better if it was just 10 minutes shorter. but after that the show was on starting with the bareback riders. one of the horses plowed into the side fence and fell over on top of it's rider. the other cowboys and judges came flying out and tackled the horse to keep it from squirming around and hurting the cowboy any more. it was crazy, but the guy walked away and the horse seemed fine after they let it up.

connor and ava were loving seeing the horses and cows. but after a while they needed to get up and move around. we always pick a spot where there aren't a lot of people so we can just spread out. the kids were playing on the stairs and nathan took them up to the top where there was a little service walkway/hallway type thing. they were running and running, which was great b/c they had eaten nothing but sugar sugar sugar. occasionally, during the show they dim the lights and every time they would come back on connor would say, "ava! the lights are back on!!" neither of them loved the lights being off, but they were ok. they just had a blast telling the cowboys good job and yelling 'hello-dy partner'.

the old rodeo clown of my childhood wasn't there anymore. the new guy was good though. you could tell he was a lot younger. he reminded me of doug heffernan. he was a little chunky and he was just a spaz. the rodeo band wasn't there this year....my guess is budget cuts, but don't quote me. but since they didn't have the band that means they used the palace sound system and played radio songs. connor and ava started dancing to, of course, the most thugg-ish music they played all night. it was pretty funny though. and for a new twist this year's rodeo started with a prayer. what's that?? a prayer?? yep. the announcer prayed before the start and i was so shocked i actually asked nathan, "is this really happening?" it was interesting, curious, and at the same time not too weird.

we left right before the rodeo was over so we could get out quickly (and b/c it was already 10:45pm!!). oh, here's a treat for ya.... there were girl bull riders. i'm sorry, but i don't want to get my so-called women's equality just so i can go sit on a 2,000 lb. bull and get slobbered on and possibly crushed after being tossed around like a rag doll. don't get me started on women's rights and equality....GAG!
connor and ava got tons of junk food and a special treat from grampa. ava got a little hat and connor got a lasso. he loves it. he's been whipping it around the house since we got home. i'm convinced that as soon as baby sister is born he'll try to rope her like a little calf. thanks, dad.

i will say this..... my dad and sister both took unflattering pictures of me. extremely unflattering. my dad zoomed into my face when i was snarfing a nacho and my sister zoomed in on my ginormous belly when i was holding the popcorn and nachos. if you see her facebook you'll have access to that gem. i almost killed her for that one. i couldn't eat my nachos after that.... for about five minutes! c'mon... did you think i would be deterred from eating? please. not at an event where the junk food is paid for by someone else.

from the minute we got there, connor was jammin'.

could not get their family to look at me all at once.

hey, mom! i got a rope!!

gotcha!

mouthful of popcorn.... well, that's delightful.

connor and ava just wanted to explore after a while. this was their perch for a few minutes.

running out the wiggles during the intermission.

say 'cheese'! yep. he's pretty good at the cheeseball face.

"thanks for my rodeo, grampa and bb!"

i think it was about 10pm when the sugar crash started.

here are the kids dancing to the thug music. it was SO LOUD. i don't know how loud it will come through on your computers so you may want to adjust your volume now..... consider yourselves warned. but it was too funny to see them breakin' out their best moves and not tape.
