we walked back, shooting the ice cream cone every five steps.... yeah, it took us forever. he would walk a few steps, get his cone ready and say, "three, two, one, BLAST OFF! look mama, i bammed it. ok, i fix it." then he would get it set again, walk a few steps... yadda, yadda, yadda. it probably took us 20 minutes to walk back to our room. once we got there i tried to run through connor's normal nightly routine.... fat chance. he did fine though. he was ready to chill out in his bed. i plopped down on my bed next to him, and we talked and sang songs until daddy got back from his air hockey extravaganza. connor took a while to finally lay down... understandably... we were watching tv so he kept popping up to see what was going on.
now let's get down to the real fun. apparently, dundee is a great stopping point between all points ohio and the u of m stadium. the place was crawling with ohio state fans. it wasn't bad until 11pm, 2am, and 4am. why then? oh, those are just the times the drunk ones came down the hall. 11 and 2 weren't horrible. but the inebriated turkey that came at 4am.... wow... what a doozy. this is pretty much what i heard:
oh, man... where's my room? 2......2...... what room? hey! ok, jethro. which room is ours? what's going on, dude? 202? 209? 222? was it this one? dude! 2.....2......2!!!
i was totally expecting him to bang on our door... we were in room 222 and he kept saying that as if he thought it was his room. wonderful. after a few minutes he got quieter. i thought he was going down to the front desk... nope. he was just going down the hallway. then he came back. at that point i was really getting worried that he'd start banging on doors which would most likely wake up the little man, so i was going to call the front desk or go peek to see if he had a sober-ish buddy with him. then i heard, "shhhhh!" it must have been someone he knew b/c he went with them and sort of quieted down.
in the morning we all met for brefix .... tired, worn out, hungry, and laughing about the drunks the night before. we had a few hours before check out so connor and nathan hit the pool again. when we were getting ready to leave we still had a few dollars left on the splash park gift card we were given so we hit the gift shop and loaded up on junk food for the ride home. we had so much money left on it i told connor he could pick out a toy. they had some stuffed animals, so i took him over to see them. after showing him all the choices and seeing his disinterest, i thought maybe i'd just find something for myself.... nothing was really popping out. at that point we didn't care what we got just so we spent the money and got on the road home. we were looking at the candy when connor came over dragging a bear and said in his deep voice, "i picked one, mom." i cracked up b/c he looked so dejected and tired dragging that little bear behind him. he just wanted to get home for his nap, and at that point i was with him. it was a fun weekend, but it was a tiring one.
this was connor at naptime. he's growing right out of this pack-n-play. i tried to flip this pic but it wouldn't work for some reason. up by connor's head you'll see nemo and pumpkin. by his feet you'll see george and blah. yes, he named them all. blah got his name b/c connor has a book with that character. when you push the lizzard button it says, "blah!"
in the goodie basket were three juicy apples. for a while now i've been trying to get connor to eat apples. i cut them up and i've even peeled them first..... not even a bite. he nabbed one of these babies and started chowing down. i guess he only likes them whole. he's shirtless b/c we were getting ready to go out for dinner, and i didn't want him to get sticky apple juice all over his clothes.
not sure what they were staring at, but this is just one more of those "this kid is a ridiculously exact copy of his father" moments. too funny!
this was pretty much the only place connor wanted to play. here he was making mac-n-cheese and chocolate... so he told me. he would swish his hand around in the yellow bowl and say, "i'm cookin' mama."
every few minutes the big bucket of water would dump out over one of the play areas. connor would stop dead in his tracks and just watch it. then he would look at me with giant eyes and say, "that's loud!"
