can't hardly stinkin' believe it

connor is two today. TWO! did you hear me? i have a 2-yr-old!!! what's up with that?? i love my little man so much and i'm so thankful that the Lord gave him to us. he is not only a blessing but a challenge.... i don't mean that in a totally negative way either. yes, he is a challenge to train--he's a heathen, he's a boy, and he's 2...you do the math. but he has also challenged me toward a more Christ honoring life. those little eyes sure do see a lot. and i'm pretty sure that he has some weird type of sonar thing going on in his ears b/c he tends to hear things i mumble under my breath extremely well. nope, i'm not even close to being "there", but he's definitely helping me realize things about myself much sooner than i would have previously admitted.

we had a great weekend of celebrating his birthday with the fam. i'll post some of those pictures. but today we started out with an unusual beginning. austin was the first to call for connor's happy birthday.... surprising, huh? well, the little nut doesn't have school today and he recently obtained his own cell phone. yeah, he's pretty hot stuff now. :) after a couple more calls (papa and tally sang putting a huge smile on the little man's face), we headed out to bowling. yep, you read that right. i'm bowling this year. my gramma has done it for a while, and last night at church marcia asked me if i was interested. when i asked nathan about it he just started laughing. he was still laughing this morning when i was getting ready. he's all for me doing it, but i think the thought of my non-bowling form just brought him to a point of absolute hysterics. we only go bowling once a year, and it shows. my high game today was 118. i was pretty pumped until i looked over and saw 140 flashing on becky and marcia's screen. they're going to crush our team. but we're going to knock them out one pin at a time. which brings me to my team name. the teams are made up of two bowlers. it just so happened that my neighbor, lora, is my partner. as we were brainstorming for team names, i said we should do something with neighbors, but i couldn't think of any bowling terms that started with 'n'. so in a moment of stupidity i heard these words come from my mouth, "hey, we should be the knockout neighbors." what??? lora's such a sweet heart she didn't say what i was thinking, "that's the stupidest thing that has ever come out of your mouth. we are all now dumber for what you just said." nope, she's not that mean. she just sweetly chuckled and said, "ok. sounds good." before i knew it marcia was writing it on our record with indelible ink. we all had a good laugh about it though.... what a goofy name. i was able to work it into the game at points. i would say, "we're gonna knock you out one pin at a time." although, some of the gals were drawing the conclusion that i got knockout from the fact that lora and i are both stunning, runway ready beauty queens. haha! :) it should be fun. connor loved just hanging out with tally (his name for my gramma).

tonight we have vball practice so connor gets to play with tally again. i'm pretty sure he's hoping for another ice cream out of this deal. :)

hey, guys! wait for me!!

oh, yeah, this is gonna be fun!

oooo... this is fun! oh, great..... am i in this shot? how's my hair?

whoa, baby!

i'm gonna gitcha, daddy!

yes, hudson, i do believe we're supposed to be the ones dipping into the cake. DAD!

connor's birthday card from momma and poppa jo-g sang a really funny happy birthday song. he LOVED IT.

a romantic boat ride for steven and christy.... with 12 other people. :)

we were trying to feed the swans, but they wanted nothing to do with us.

hanging on the boat. i'm pretty sure when nathan was sitting down my dad slammed on the brakes (are there brakes on a boat???) he got his hiney a little wet. :)

hudson was loving the nice smelling walnuts we found.... at least i think that's what they were

just checkin' out the scenery

grace was so cute to sit and listen to ava blab on and on about nothing. she was really going to town explaining something to grace--hand gestures and all! although, i'm sure grace had no idea what it was.

right before we left we had one more bounce... bb got in on the action.

grampa was bouncing right over connor's head....i'm sure it was just to freak me out. but connor tackled him for me.

saturday morning reading time

the kids played and played forever with these leggos. they were nathan's when he was little.

connor sporting his old school jean jacket

it's old school b/c these two once wore it. pretty cool.

You, my knockout-neighbor, are a blogging machine! :) Happy Birthday Connor! I love his jacket - even better that it was his grandpa's! I love family hand-me-downs. Luke got to wear several of Daniel's and Matthew's - some esp. 70's style!

So, are you technically on a bowling league? I cracked up, I don't know why, but it sounds like fun! :) And your score of 118 would probably double mine. Yikes. Maybe Nathan will get you a bowling ball for Christmas. Do you have a glove? Sorry. I'm getting a little carried away. :)

I know how you feel about 2-yr-old shock! Congrats to you all and happy birthday to Connor!

Loved your bowling story. Do you get to wear matching shirts? You should get them embroidered with your very appropriate team name. :)

katie-
yeppers! it's not a big huge smoke filled lanes league. it's just a crew of chicas from our church, but we use real rules and all that good stuff. i've really been eying one of those arm braces to improve my form... haha! i'm seriously looking for shoes on ebay though b/c it's $2.40 for shoes and i'm sorry but that's just silly. i can get a pair for less than $10 and get my use out of them way fast.

alicia-
i'm dying to have nathan get us some t-shirts. we don't get to wear the cool stereotypical bowling shirts though. we bowl at 9:30 in the morning so it's pretty empty in the place. but i'd sport one if we had them.... for sure. :)

I think I have a pair of old saddle shoes you could use. ;) They're size 10, though. :) What an idiot I was!
