more party time for av

sunday dinner was ava's 'big family' party. but i'm gonna be honest, the party turned out way better for me than for av......we had two wicked good salads and cooked out burgers and dogs. i was lovin' the meal. yeah, sure she got some presents.....big whoop. the pool's open, but it was a little chilly for my blood. and my blood is attached to the responsible adult that has to go in with the con-man. needless to say, he didn't go in, but we'll be hitting the pool tons this summer. he's a water freak and i'm sure he'll be pumped to swim.

today i tried to pull another lucy and ethel moment....and true to form, i needed an ethel. *enter nicole*. she came over this morning to say hi on her way to cvs...she never made it to cvs. sometime in the five minutes she was here, i got the great idea to switch the handle on my fridge. i've been dying to do this for months now, but we just never got around to it b/c of schedules and studying and just life. our kitchen is more like a hallway, and the fridge was set up at our old house so the handle used to make sense on that side. but for two years we've basically been opening our fridge into the living room b/c of the handle placement. everything started out okay. we were reading the directions and moving along at a good pace. i had all the tools i needed (amazing in and of itself), and i even figured out that nathan's new-ish drill had an attachement for the annoying hex screws--no, i don't know their true name. five seconds later the drill dies....the second battery was also toast. good thing the charger works super fast. so we thought we were out of the woods. i was over by the dishwasher disassembling the handles on both doors and nicole was taking random screws out of the base of the fridge. then i hear, "oh, boy!" and i look down to see nicole trying desparately to lift the fridge with her fingers (yes, my oh-so-prego sister is apparently she-woman, able to lift entire fridges with only three fingers). so i get over there and help lift it a bit and i say, "so i guess that's why they call that one the 'stabilizing leg'." no harm done though, so we moved on with tenacity. getting it back together took a little more work than i thought. probably b/c there were four kids in the living room dancing, singing, crying, whining, and asking for food. note to self: do not attempt major home improvements during children's awake time. but i did actualy get lunch out on time.

unfortunately, i made nic miss out on a daddy drop-in. mike ran by the house while they were here, so i feel a little bad about that. but let me just say my sister is awesome! she is so cool to help me do junk like that....and she's pregnant! when we used to fight (constantly) as youngsters, my dad would end his lectures with this phrase (consistently) 'just wait. when you get older, your sister will be your best friend. you'll regret it if you don't learn to get along. look at me and my brothers. we hang out all the time.' and as much as it pains me to say it.....he was right. (i'm still holding my ground on some of the junk he told me would come true--barely, but still holding in my stubbornness.)we are best of friends and we do hang out all the time (i'm sure mike and nathan are sick of us sometimes). i'm so thankful that...for now...we live so close to each other.

she's getting pretty good at blowing out candles.

we're watching ava open MORE presents? can't i go outside?

surprisingly, austin is a pretty good babysitter.

dillon specifically posed and said, "oh, yeah. this one's for the blog." what a turkey.

gramma sanders got connor a little golf set....he was lovin' life.

In the last picture in the background do I see baseball? Can it be that i remember it? I was beginning to fear I was forgetting what it looks like on the tv. :)

Connor will fit nicely into the family with his golf clubs :) Love ava's hair!!

Isn't it funny. I was just talking to some of the girls in the youth group who don't care much for or get along with their sisters. One of the girls who's sisters are older said...we used to fight but now we are like best friends. I basically told them the same thing you wrote. It get's better...you just can't live together. Maybe having kids to play together helps too!

Austin is a GREAT babysitter. Especially because he loves both Connor and Ava soooooooo much! I am partial though since he is mine.

Wow, you two gals are brave to tackle that refrigerator project! Maybe you should start a home improvement show? Wouldn't that be cute? You'd have to use the "sisters" song from White Christmas for an opening song. :)

I don't know your sis at all but I'm always VERY IMPRESSED with how she does Ava's hair! What is her secret?!?! I must know, I'm dying to do something more with Chloe's hair but I end up putting it half up in pigtails or two barrettes most days.

alicia-
my sister is a genius with ava's hair. and she's been that way since day one...ava has always had TONS of hair. i think one of her secrets is that she uses products like spray gel, smoothing cream, etc. plus...she's just really good at hair. and ava has plenty to work with.
