woopsie....

ok, so today started out alright. i was going to go for two glorious walks. first, with nic and av and later tonight when nathan got home. i got a few things cleaned up for the day and called nic to see if she was up for a walk. i went over to get her and as i was going i realized it was a little cooler than i had hoped. maybe we'll shorten our walk. nic agreed and we decided to drop off some cards at aunt claudia's.

nicole went around the house to get the dog and i was getting ava out the front door. i grabbed all the stuff nic had by the door....almost all the stuff.....and i closed the door. what i did NOT realize was that the door was locked and nic's keys and phone were in the house. woops. nicole comes around the side of the house with a huge grin on her face. dumbfounded, i ask, "what?"
*nicole attempts to push open the door. she smirks and tells me the handle was already locked. woops. i'm such a stupid! i didn't even check. so now, we're stuck, but we had to drop off the cards anyway. by this time i'm freezing b/c my sweatshirt just isn't cutting it, and nicole says, "you could borrow a coat....if you hadn't just locked the house."

oddly, this isn't the first time we've done this. or the second, or the third. when we were younger, we were always getting locked out of the house. we lived pretty close to the school so my parents would frequently tell us to walk home from whatever we were doing up there, or we could get a ride. we, of course, were devastated by this. GET A RIDE??? all of our friends have access to their parents cars or have their own cars and we have to GET A RIDE?? where is the justice here?? right about then was when my dad would go stand on the front porch and point to the school two and a half blocks up and say, "i can SEE where you're going. walk!" so we would huff out the door and steam all the way up to the school b/c he was such a wicked wicked father. (are you catching the sarcasm here? b/c i'm laying it on pretty thick.)

on a number of occasions, we were locked out and had to wait outside for someone to come home with a key. so my mom had the bright idea to put a hide-a-key out for us. the only problem was when someone (ahem, nicole) would use the key it wouldn't get put back in it's holder. so on more than one occasion i was found reaching for the hide-a-key only to pull out an empty box. enter lucy and ethel. there were a handful of times when this happened and we got the bright idea to break into the house. we used the kitchen window once, the bathroom a few time, nicole's bedroom window....this was the best one. it was on the side of the house that bumped right up against our neighbor's fence. if the window was unlocked you could use the fence (and your sister's back) to crawl through. i don't remember what happened exactly, but i do recall an unfortunate slip that caused one of us to go crashing onto the other sister's head while holding on for dear life with one hand and the other hand scrambling to cling to the half open window. the ladder through the kitchen or bathroom was always a better choice. though my parents will beg to differ. once they found out how often we did this, the windows were ALWAYS checked. so from then on, it was back to waiting on the porch.

and now, before i post the picture of the day i have to tell the story that it reminded me of:
i cannot believe i am about to admit to this.....ok, here's the deal.....my dad used to wear cammo every day of his life. when we were little we could have cared less, but once we started to care about fashion we were mortified. we would beg him to wear anything else. i think he did it out of spite.....well, not really. his all time most worn outfit was his cammo pants, and jean jacket. i could pretty much bet when he walked through the door on a saturday, weekday after work, or sunday afternoon, he'd be wearing that. it was like clockwork. so the other day i was running a check up to the bank to deposit and i wanted to walk since it was nice. i grabbed everything, threw connor's jacket on him and headed out the door. it wasn't until i got right in front of nic and mike's house that i realized what i had done. connor was wearing cammo pants and a jean jacket. the irony is killing me.

at least i can be thankful that the worst of his horrible wardrobe is gone. the "world's greatest dad" t-shirt is no more. imagine this: my dad walks into the dining hall where i attend college (accompanied by my uncle wearing zubaz .....'nuf said) and he's wearing the "world's greatest dad" shirt. of course, on this shirt is a picture of nic and me, and of course, she's still in her cute elementary phase and i'm full swing into the chubby awkward phase..... complete with braces, rings around my eyes from goggles (we were in FL when this pic was taken), and hair pulled straight back into a pony b/c i had just pulled myself from the pool when my parents said we had to go to the tourist trap boardwalk. i was lookin' smooth. and here comes my dad with this baby plastered across his chest....and yes, he was wearing cammo pants.

he's much more sophisticated now. he only wears cammo up north.

going to work with the truck

he just pulls off the look so well.

run! it's baby-zilla!
i loved how fat his cheek looked in this one. :)

I promise I read the entire thing - too funny! - but I have to confess, I'm finding myself scanning all blogs first for the word "walking" and then going back and reading all of it. How sad is that??? BUT - with all those walking times in there, I'll expect to see some huge numbers posted toward "Team Tally" - - -speaking of which - poke the guys - you know the ones I mean - they need to send totals. :) And for the record, Ace is ADORABLE in cammos or anything else for that matter! :)
