having a baby changes everything...

this weekend, certain events made me think of those sappy commercials....you know the ones....the black and white commercials with gentle music and a baby in a bathtub with the mom talking about how she used to look for tall, dark, and handsome. and now the love of her life is short and bald. yeah, it's cutsie and true, but i am not one to dwell on the sap of life. give me a funny story any day. and the weekend was full of the opposite of those commercials. just plain hilarious stuff kids do.

we rented a movie saturday night. and b/c our brains were temporarily out of commision we tried to watch it while connor was still awake. i know that anywhere i go, he goes. so why would he want to sit in his room and play while we were out in the living room? duh? we tried and tried to lure him back to his toys. i put him on his carpet with his all time favorite books....he will normally sit there and read for almost 20 minutes while i'm working. but he wasn't having that. i would leave the room and he would be right on my heels. it was kind of funny, but kind of annoying at the same time. we thought we had won the battle when he sat on my lap for a while, but that got boring pretty fast and he wanted to get down. next we tried to give him his hammer, b/c he likes to "fix" things around the house. he decided to play doctor instead and test our reflexes....mine are excellent by the way.... needless to say, we will not be watching any more movies before 8pm.

other random things happened throughout the week. i found connor splashing in the toilet with his spongebob basketball. that was a special treat. he tried to unroll the toilet paper again. that's always a treat.

but today had to be the ultimate height of insanity that i've reached in quite a while. even on bad days, i still feel like i've got things pretty much together. i try very hard not to freak out about things that used to make me flip. i really like things done a certain way, but since connor i have tried to "get over it" in a sense and go with the flow more. this weekend i just sort of took the cleaning button and switched it to off. toys were everywhere, dishes were piling up, dust covered each and every surface available and finally started taking up residence on connor's head. i knew today would be "kick it into high gear" mode, and really, i was okay with that. the girls were coming over so i knew they could be counted on to play with the little man. things started relatively well. i finally washed the silverware (we had none clean!), i did a quick clean of the bathroom, i cleaned connor's diaper pail, and i had just enough time to dry my hair and curl it before getting lunch ready. i was making spaghetti squash for the kids, so i wanted to get it ready and cut it up for them. by this time, connor was in super crank mode and crying at my feet. i tried very hard to not scream at him and teach him AGAIN about patience (which, i know he doesn't really get yet--but he will. oh, yes, he will). then he finally went out to see the girls and a few seconds later i hear, "miss christina! connor puked! on the couch!!"
aw, crud! he tried to eat a wet wipe and learned the hard way that he's not a goat. so i go clean that up. oh, that's nasty. finally get that done and i'm in the process of cutting the squash and mixing it with sauce......splat!!! oh, stink! the plate fell off the counter and sauce covered squash was covering my sweatshirt, shirt that was hanging out from under the sweatshirt, jeans, and slippers....oh, and it was all the way down the cabinet and all over the floor too. you've got to be kidding me. hey what's that smell? is something burning? THE TOAST!! stink again~ ok, plan two: they can have carrots and ranch with their squash. connor's screaming for food, i'm covered in spaghetti sauce, and i finally just throw the plates on the table and tell the girls lunch is ready and i have to go change. erica says in her most understanding grown up voice, "we can just pray by ourselves today." thanks, kiddo.

so after a not so delightful lunch, i put connor in his bed for nap and let the girls watch cartoons to their heart's delight. needless to say i lost steam after that and didn't get too much done. well, maybe i can kick it back into high gear now.....of course, there's always tomorrow. :)

bonus: nicole called me (actually, she called right after the spaghetti fell so i didn't get her call right away) and told me milk was 2/$3!!!!! we go through more milk in a week than a family of 6, so i am always on the lookout for cheap milk. she grabbed me a gallon and i must say, i feel as though that's quite an accomplishment for today.

he sat there and tried to get that thing on for about 15-20 minutes.

YES! finally. ok, now to get it off.

I loved your line, "Thanks Kiddo." It made me laugh out loud!

kelly-
it was so cute. i think she could tell i was flustered and wanted me to know things were under control.

meijers had a secret sale. i didn't see it in their weekly ad, but nicole called me from the store all excited. i'm not sure if it's only our meijers though.
