one down, one to go!

we had a blast of a party last night. nathan's parents flew in on their way to colorado....ptl for that $69 flight!! it was so fun that they could come for connor's first birthday. and boy did connor enjoy it! nathan's aunt dawn drove down from flint too....thanks for making the trek dawn! it was great. connor LOVED eating his cake. i'm going to post some b-day pics on this and some in a slide b/c i took TONS. **i can't get the blogger to post pics so i'll just try a slide for this one too. p.s. thanks guys, for humoring me with the pirate dress up pics. that's going straight in connor's baby book! :)

we picked them up from the airport on monday mid-morning. and as is his custom with new-ish faces, connor cried. but before we finished the 10 minute drive home from the airport, they were like old friends again. grandparents are so good at that. i personally think it had something to do with the bushell of airline cookies they finaggled off the stewardess. :) they're no dummies...they know what kids love!! after that they all had a good time.....even though sadly, it was such short time. but we are thankful for any time!

once again it was u.p. to the rescue. (name has been changed to protect the innocent and prevent a seinfeld replay....the one where they all get doc's notes from the same doc to fool the insurance into paying for massages.....even though the situation is TOTALLY different and not quite as funny) nathan's mom had run out of a Rx that she needed for her foot. b/c of being out of town on a holiday, getting in touch with her doc wasn't gonna happen, and them going to a clinic would cost buku bucks. so we called u.p. to see if he could work some pharmaceutical magic....piece o' cake! thanks u.p. you "saved her life again!!" she said. (and her moolah too!) so we stopped by the pharmacy to fill that Rx and picked up some lunch before we headed home. lunch was actually funny b/c we went to salsarita's in a.p. and it was CLOSED! hello? what restaurant closes on a holiday?? barely a holiday!! if art van runs a sale.....it's a half holiday in my book. coldstone and starbucks were open. who gave rita permission to close?? WHATEVER! so we drove to the other side of town and hit moe's.

after driving all over downriver, we got home and had our lunch. then we just hung out around the house, chatting and watching one of our fave movies....national treasure....then dawn rolled in and the festivities commenced. we had tons of food, opened connor's cute new presents, and then....drumroll please.....my first sucessful themed birthday cake!! yes, i will say, i'm quite proud of myself for this one.

today was pretty laid back. the guys had some running around to do, so they went out during connor's morning nap. after that it was lazy lunch and chill until time to get back to dtw.

fun was had by all. connor was cute. and it was great to see nathan's parents.

we love you guys! so glad you could drop out of the sky for a short while!

Oh. My. Heart. The cake looks awesome - you are sooooo creative! And just how is that Cheryl is getting younger instead of older?!?!? They look great - and sooo happy! I LOVE the pic of the three of you - one whole year together - Connor looks so "happy little man-ish" in that one. Mrs. Scooter is going to be jealous not to have such a cool cake for HER party today - - - but I heard SHE got breakfast in bed! :)

thanks, but my creativity comes straight from the internet. i searched birthday cakes until i found a "birthday cakes for dummies" type cake.
and i agree, that pic of the three of us is one of my new favorites too. i might blow it up and frame it.
