date night

our date night was so much fun i had to dedicate an entire post to it. we got connor out to my parents and bolted. first, we hit my all time fave salad spot-- ruby tuesday. we both got the new special they're running--two ruby mini burgers and salad bar. it was very good and delightfully inexpensive, even though our waitress was a bit slow. we probably only noticed b/c we were trying to get out of there by 7p b/c we were trying to make it over to the mall to see invincible. i would highly recommend that movie. it was one of those underdog, feel good, proud to be an american movie. amazingly i picked it, and nathan loved it. usually, he has to pick b/c i'm all about romantic comedy and he's a sports, action, comedy kind of guy. but amazingly, i did alright.

after we got the tickets, i went to use the bathroom and nathan was going to get a pop and popcorn. well, he ordered before he saw how big they both were. we were down in podunk monroe so your money goes a long way. these things were HUGE! so nathan is holding this massive vat of pop and bucket of popcorn. we get inside and pick seats from an almost empty theater. good thing too b/c as he was sitting down, somehow nathan's vat of diet coke slipped out of his hand and SPLOOSH! all down the floor to the seats ahead of us. we were cracking up. nathan says, "i think that's the biggest pop i've ever spilled in my life." so he goes out to the front and comically tells the people he's had an accident. meanwhile, i'm sitting there trying not to laugh as the voice onscreen asks us to help keep the theater clean. woops! then in walks an employee with a mop. nathan felt bad so he offered to clean it up, but she just laughed and started mopping. then the screen freezes and i thought, oh great, they had to stop the previews so this girl can clean up nathan's mess...now all five people in here will be mad the movie's late. but it wasn't b/c of the spill it was just a technical difficulty. needless to say, we didn't finish the pop or the popcorn. but i made nathan bring home the popcorn b/c there was so much left, i just couldn't throw it out.

we had so much fun though. it was really only our second "date" since connor was born. the first time we were planning on going out to hear a special music at a local church, but we were running late....again....so we just hit ruby's and wal-mart. it was right after connor was born so we were both exhausted and hardly talked. even in wal-mart we were like zombies. but this time was GREAT! it was like we were back in college again.....except i was wearing jeans and we were holding hands. we had so much fun just talking and laughing and playing the radio game at the top of our lungs. i love my boy, but i will treasure last night for years to come.

i'm just so thankful for family and friends that understand the need for mommy and daddy time, and love us enough to help us accomplish these much needed nights. ;-)

thanks for babysitting mom and dad!! i'm sure it was torturous! :)

Christina,

Uncle Mitchell had a similar incident happen in the movie theatre. Except, he made me sneak a pop in my purse along with many other goodies. However, when he decided it was time to pull the pop out it "blew up" all over him. I don't think I will ever forget the look on his face. I was horrified because just as it blew an usher walked by (I don't like breaking the rules). Needless to say, we haven't snuck any pops in since :-)

you're lucky he didn't have you pull a gramma tally and sneak it in your shirt! :) i have to admit, i wasn't planning on having popcorn so i had some pretzels in my purse. but b/c we had enough popcorn for all of monroe i didn't have my pretzels. hmm...pretzels....seems uncle mitchell had an unfortunate incident with those too! :)

I've never heard of Invinsible. We've just been hitting the dollar show lately. Are the tickets cheaper in Monroe too? We'll have to try that some time.

Don't you love it when you're in a theatre and you hear a can of pop open? (That would be my bro Daniel.)

2 dates in one year? You better do better this year! You can call on me to babysit any time.

You go girl....keep up the dates. Hal and I have done that since Caleb was a baby and I believe I am a nicer person because of it. :-) It is such a welcome break...and I come back a better mom.
