gearing up for the big race!

we've had so much excitement around here lately, i've almost forgotten about getting ready for the race. last night a bad storm passed through here and somehow a transformer blew at the end of our block. there were some wires down and power was browning out for a few hours. dte got on it really fast (i thought) and we were restored to full power by 11:15p. and of course, my mom's little scare which is posted below.

since mom's going to be okay, my dad is still planning on going to the race. he really wanted to skip it, but we all convinced him that it was okay to go since mom is fine. he's put way too much into this. i'm going to stay home with mom and ace. nathan is going to go up with mike, nic and ava (i'm not 100% on the nic and ava part but i think that's what they're leaning toward). we are really praying that they pick up time this year. dad thinks they will. there is a very cool map of the race which actually shows last years race results. and believe it or not, my dad's boat is represented!! isn't that cool? yeah, sure they are represented so you can see the time difference between first and last place, but who cares?! trust me, in this race (for the average paddler) winning isn't everything......finishing is.

dad's sprint to decide race placement is thursday. i'll be updating throughout the race weekend.

i'm telling ya, just look through the official race website. i wish i could express excitement better through written words. this race is one serious adrenaline rush. i'm bummed that mom and i will be home, but she needs to rest and going there.....that would SO not happen! :) you just don't rest one bit during this beast. it is non stop. and we love it.
