every year whatever present time it is (christmas, birthday, etc) i wrack my brain trying to think of SOMETHING for the kid who has everything, and if he needs it he'll buy it. there are ALWAYS new toys and trinkets that nathan says, "oh, i would love to get that!" and i try very hard to make mental notes for these gift giving occasions. but for whatever reason....i can never remember what those cool things were when it's time to buy a present!! ARGH!!! and that has been compounded by the fact that i've been (in the past) very busy with school and life in general. well, this year i have had some time (nap time specifically) to surf the web looking for the perfect father's day/birthday present for nathan.
i cannot tell you how many cheesy father's day presents are out there! i searched high and low forever. i looked at way too many towels, beer mugs, pillows, toilet paper holders, and dancing fish. it's like people went from giving dad a tie to giving him garage sale fodder! give me a break people!! now, i know there are people out there that would love such novelty gifts as two old men holding your toilet paper roll for you....but that's just not something i want to see everyday. know what i mean?
knowing my nathan's enjoyment for golf and anything 'golfish' i searched mainly golf related sites. since we've been married, nathan has had the opportunity to play at and visit many unique and prestigious golf courses. he even got to go see the ryder cup at oakland hills. well, b/c of that he has a lot of cool golf balls just sitting around, or in a box on his desk. not cool. that lead me to the discovery of the coolest gift ever. the gift that actually had nathan speechless! the gift that forced him into the fetal position with joy and emotion!! the gift that i will never be able to top!!!
a golf ball display case!
what? that's it, you say?? don't worry it gets better. it's what i put inside that really counts.
he was pumped about the display case. in fact, he had just mentioned to one of his buddies that he would really like a nice display case just like it. but then he opened the birthday portion of his gift. i had a sleeve of golf balls made with connor's picture. he loved it!
and obviously, i loved it too b/c i gave it to him way before father's day or his birthday. i was way to excited. i had them wrapped next to connor's crib and nathan never even saw them! i was so excited when they came and i waited as long as i could. but last night, was our anniversary--which we've never really purchased official "presents" for--so we were talking about that and i slipped that he had presents to open and i just couldn't wait after that.
next year i think i'm gonna have to buy him a trip to the moon.

Way to go Christina!!! What a terrific gift. I know Nate loved it. And putting Ace's pic on the golf ball, well, can I just say, "You the Woman!!"
That's cool...but isn't that kind of like child abuse. You know, hitting your child with a golf club??
P.S. Please ignore that crazy picture Barry put of me on my comments. I still have to figure out how to get it off. The crazy games we play...
it's not child abuse....he promised he would never play with those. :)
oh, and how can i NOT comment on that pic?? too crazy!
awwwwwwww, great gift girl! where did you get the pics put on the golf balls? I've never seen that before.
Cool idea - I was a little worried about the abuse part, too, but breathed easier after reading his promise not to hit the pictorial version of Ace! - Glad you liked the book! It's one of my all-time faves. Can I be first in line for an autographed copy of The Lovelys?? :)
alicia,
i think it was pargolf.com. i just looked until i found a place that would do less than a dozen! i couldn't believe that's how most places sold novelty golf balls. i don't know what we would do with all of them if that were the case.
brenda,
when the book hits the best sellers list...you got it toots! in fact, i'm off to write another "chapter" right now. (to use your term) :)
