the other night as he was doing his workout, he decided to resort back to northland days and pull out his favorite vb practice outfit. this consisted of his 1984 church athletic association t-shirt and his nbbc vb shorts. YIKES! is all i can say. when we were in college i tried to throw that shirt away many times and somehow it made it down to michigan and even survived our second move to our current home.
as we were laughing about the shirt i realized that it was probably the 7th outfit that nathan had put on that day.
rewind to nathan's childhood. i have it from good sources (nathan's mom and dad), that every time he and jonathan wanted to play a different game or sport they would have to change clothes. so if they wanted to play basketball, they would come get their hoops clothes on; if they wanted to play karate, they would come get thier karate outfits; baseball required a whole new garb as well, and so on and so on..... this created quite a pile of clothes throughout the day i'm sure.
fast forward to present day....that night we sat there and counted the different outfits nathan had put on that day. regular clothes, hang out clothes, shorts b/c he was thinking of florida, long sleeved shirt b/c it's still cold, then jeans to go to the store, then back to the shorts, then junky khakis to work on his office, then workout #1 outfit and then he landed on workout #2 outfit, the church athletic shirt.
i am torn about this trend. for two reasons, #1 he's become a great shopper and bargain finder b/c of his constant "need" to change clothes. #2 i have to fold a lot of clothes in the path behind him.
so here's the shirt.....can i get some backup on the fate of the church athletic shirt?
notice the lines on the red ball--they are not there. those are empty spaces. soon the word "champs" will fall out like an old stencil.
note the lovely tissue paper quality of this fine vintage specimen.
just a few more threads and this "ringer" will no longer hold true to it's name. notice that the shirt has runs similar to an old pair of nylons. that gives you an idea of the thickness.

....but don't worry he said it was ok, since it was all in good fun.

Just as long as he doesn't go out in public, I think he should keep it. :-) Geoff has to be in a mood to get rid of things. Maybe that feeling will fall upon Nathan someday, but until then, keep inside the house. :)

i'm afraid, though, that this shirt will be handed down from generation to generation for as long as it has life and doesn't disintegrate. :-)
This shirt needs to be pitched. I will come over and steal it for you and throw it away when Nathans not there. That way he can only blame me and not you. But you must return the favor. Ryan has about three favorite things that he wears EVERY DAY!! it is so wierd and a bit disgusting. I have stopped laughing about it a long time ago. Ryan actually wears these old sick clothes out in public and doesn't see anything wrong with it. "As long as I'm comfortable" he says to me. Ryan used to be such a great dresser, I dont know when he stopped caring. I told him that he is turning into his dad. They used to be so embarassed at the things he would wear in public (a bowinkle hat, to name one). Now it is Gavin's turn to be embarassed by his father. Anyway, if you don't throw that shirt away, at least box it up and hide it somewhere where he can't find it.

I am all about being sentimental - maybe you should frame it instead of wearing it - sorry christina! LOL hope that doesn't become a staples decor item in your house now :)
you all need to lay off the man. the shirt's pimp, always has been. props to hairy for sporting the old standby. i bet he still pops NBA 3's with the luck left in 'er.

Thank you thank you - at least someone understands my taste in fashion. And yes I still have the magic 6 feet behind the three point line touch. I can ball baby!! So I raise my glass to you man, thanks for understanding - I just can't wait until our own boys want to start wearing these types of shirts. That's why i am saving all my oldies but goodies for him. Just wait until I post a picture of my "playdough" t shirt, now that's a beauty!

Michael has one of the same fabric quality, however, it has a map of Colorado on it...
Thankfully, it's too sacred to wear, and is just in one of those boxes you look through every 5 years for good times' sake.
Hey, I threw that shirt away several summers ago. Nathan...you little garbage picker. Chin up Chrissy...he could have an old pair of Levi cut offs. HA!
