thanksgiving.... and after thanksgiving shopping

well, i'm stuffed.

thanksgiving has to be my favorite meal. i cook very simple meals around here. my gramma, apparently, has never heard of the word simple when it comes to cooking. it's not uncommon to find up to 4 kinds of potato on her table. yes, i said 4... that's F.O.U.R.

if you come to a typical sanders/tally/doran/hairgrove/sherf thanksgiving.... did i get everyone??.... you will commonly find a delightful array of...well... everything. gramma makes the turkey  the old fashioned way. with lots of love and butter. the right way. she makes stuffing to die for, giblet gravy that the smart people appreciate, and classic gramma rolls. the past few years aunt claudia has delegated some of the cooking to gramma, the aunts and laura. delightful. you get the best of all worlds. gramma whips up her amazing mac n cheese. we get all sorts of good veggies and casseroles. laura puts out a sweet arrangement with her chocolate fountain. oh, heavenly. my mom makes the cheese balls and dips... let me just leave you with this: roasted red pepper relish dip....mommy! so delish!! no surface is uncovered. good food is everywhere. and there's even a basket of stale cheetos. yes. stale. all the cousins love them that way. i don't know why, but that's just the way it is. you just cannot imagine a better day of munching.

this year was great. connor really enjoyed bowling this year. he wasn't too interested last year, but this year he got it. we would plop the ball down at the end of the lane and he would say, "and a one, and a two, and a BOWL!" then he would run to the table and take another swig of my mt. dew. little stinker.

after bowling we came back to hang out at gramma's and eat some more. the fruit salad did not disappoint. nathan headed up to the cabin with my parents and some of the guys. and i brought home two super tired kiddos. connor had been up since 6:30am that morning! i'll tell you the story tomorrow.... or later. who knows.

i'm still reeling from the tryptophan.

as for friday shopping.... since i'm flying solo i wasn't about to head out into the craziness full force. i decided i'd head out to pick up nathan's gift after the kids had lunch. i gave myself about an hour to get there, find a space, get through the store and wait in line. and i had absolutely no expectations of being able to find what i wanted since i was leaving so late in the day. well, it was a festivus miracle if i've ever seen one! i parked TWO spaces from the door. i walked in to be greeted by a table and a bin holding the EXACT items i was expecting to search the entire store to find. i grabbed them and headed to the checkout waiting to turn the corner and find a line a mile long. NO ONE. it took me longer to go through the stupid zig zag barrier set up they had for the early morning rush than it did for me to purchase my items. everything went so smoothly i was expecting the store security buzzers to go off as we left and the security guards to usher us into a small back room and question us as to the contents of our bags. but no! we walked out unscathed and were back home in less than 20 minutes. fabulous. i should quit while i'm ahead. now hear this: no one else is getting christmas presents b/c i am ending the christmas shopping season on a high note! there. that should do it.
