he was too little to enjoy the snow his first winter, then last year he inherited a cool snowsuit from shannon (one of the cuties i used to babysit). thankfully, and amazingly the suit still fits this year!! it is just a smidge snug, but i found a growth stitch. the arms and legs can both be let out about another inch which will mean he has a snowsuit that will fit all winter... ptl for that! so monday night he and i headed over to grampa and bb's to play in the snow (and to finish up some last minute christmas gifts!! :)
it was obvious that his legs are super short and the snow was wicked deep. i helped him get around the corner of the house, but then i thought he was doing ok so i decided to tape him for a minute. now, here's where i'll insert my wisdom. yes, it's wisdom that i had to gain by experience... but so much wisdom comes to us that way, right? are you ready for this nugget of truth? if the snow is deeper than your child's legs are long, DO NOT let go of his hand. i know that may seem simple, but there's truth in it my friends. yes, i had to learn it the hard way, and yes, it came at connor's expense, but he's a tougher kid for it.... and i am a little wiser, and healthier from the chuckle it gave me. i think he took about five steps on his own and the BAM! face plant. straight down. his little arms didn't even have a chance of protecting him. my mom scooped him up right away and brushed off his little face. he was of course, fine and not at all traumatized or i wouldn't be telling you this. of course, with my track record of laughing at people when they fall, maybe i should reconsider.....nah! it's classic! we were watching it together and he cracked up and said, "mommy, i fell down! that's funny!" i'll take that as permission to post and someday use it against him when he's a stinker of a teenager.
after that we had a delightful dinner with my parents. connor just wanted to sit at the table and chat. it was so funny to see him acting grown up. he was rambling on about his favorite cartoons, playing ball, shooting deer... it was pretty fun to see him interacting with people like that. then he started being a little silly and he knew he was getting laughs. at one point, he was talking through his own laughter, pointing his little finger out and he said, "listen, grampa!" it was so stinkin' funny we all cracked up. if it had been in a different context i would have popped him one, but he was trying to get grampa's attention the same way i get his. i always tell him to listen.
so get ready to laugh at the little man in the snow. first, i'll put the biff, then i'll put the one from just a minute after that when he was once again ready to face the towering snow drifts.

Luke and I had fun watching your videos. Don't tell Connor, but I watched the falling one a few times and cracked up.

Luke asked if that was at Nony's house. Poor kid. He's thinks any amount of land not inhabited by houses or stores in Nony's (my mom).
Over half way on the sister deal for connor huh!? way to go.
I see connor is older and wiser in that second video. :) He's certainly more cautious after that faceplant! His counting is adorable! Chloe always gets mixed up at eleven.
