oh, what a night.... (long story......)

(yeah, it's a long boring story of my mommy life. no complaints please. just don't read it.)

i told you guys last night was a super special dinner, right? ok, so you know about the french fries and chicken nuggets and coke? well, i'm pretty sure that for the first time ever i've seen the effects of caffeine in a small child. everything seemed fine and normal. why would i expect anything from a half guzzled kid size coke? he's had coke from wendy's before. he's even finished a whole coke from wendy's. i even let him stay up about 20 minutes extra b/c he had been playing volleyball with nathan and he was excited from that. he calmed down just fine, went through his nightly routine like nothing was up..... and then.....BOOM!

about 9:15pm we hear, "i wanna sit on mommy's lap please." sort of quiet, sort of sheepish as if he knew anything louder would bring down the wrath of mom and dad. since this is such a rarity and since he's been under the weather, i thought maybe he had a yucko diaper, or he was congested, so we went in to check on him. we walk in and he's standing in the corner like a little deer in the headlights..... oh, shoot.... i better think of something or i'm going down. "mommy, i want some cheerios in a bowl please. i see my daddy, i sit on daddy's lap please." clearly, nothing was wrong with him. so he snuggles with nathan for a minute and then it's right back to bed. he went right back, no crying no whining. great!

about 10-ish i hear, "i need some cheerios please." he's not asleep yet?? what the stink? so i head in to tell him to get his little butt in bed or it's gonna be one on one with connor and mama. "yes, ma'am." and down he goes. it's quiet for a while.... almost too quiet. by now nathan and i were upstairs for the night and just watching some tv.

10:40pm--- another sheepish cry for help. "mommy? mommy? mommy? i need to see my mommy please?" this time i was going to wait it out and let him just get tired and fall asleep. then he gets a little more desperate, "mommy?! mommy?! i need to see my mommy please!!!" by 10:50pm he's crying and i can just hear the snot rolling down his little nose. "MOMMY? I NEED TO SEE MY MOMMY PLEASE!" so i went down to give him a serious mommy and connor time. he looked so pitiful when i got there and he was begging for cheerios. "i need a snack please." since he had asked so many times i was starting to wonder if by now he could actually be hungry. so, against my lazy-girl-who-just-wanted-to-go-back-and-get-under-the-covers judgment, i decided to get him a small bowl of cheerios and some water. he ate them like he had been fasting in the desert for a month. before his last bite i told him it was time to sleep and he was going to get back in his bed after this. so we snuggled for a little while, which usually makes him rub his little eyes and yawn. that's when it hit me, this kid is totally caffeined up. he was wide awake. it was unreal. he had never been like that before. but after a few minutes of sitting on mommy's lap he was again content to hit the hay. after this i didn't hear a peep from him........

.....until 2:30am. that's when his cough started up again. so i got into stealth mode and slipped him some medicine in his sleep. i always get nervous doing that b/c i know one of these times it will backfire on me, but i would rather take the chance, ya know? of course, he fell right back to sleep and i was awake for the next hour listening.

and then today came. what a flurry of activity was this morning. nathan got off to work about 8 and i was exhausted so i decided to just chill until the little man woke up. he got up about 8:40 which seemed like it would be ok.....wrong. his previous night was VERY evident and we had some serious connor and mommy one-on-one times.

i had to go get some blood work done that i couldn't get to friday b/c of feeling sick. which meant i was going to either take nathan back to work after lunch or go to the lab after he got home from work. i was hoping to go after work b/c that way connor could take a nice long nap. i get the hours for the lab....... they're open until 4pm. ok, so it's going to be a lunch run. connor was a surprising trooper until the lady put her gloves on to get my blood. all the horrible doctor memories came flooding back and connor started to freak. i tried to calm him down...... yeah, that wasn't going to work out too well. she put the band around my arm and connor's eyes got as big as saucers, "take it off! take it off!!!" so i tried distracting him and telling him i was okay and i was brave. no soup. my final attempt was to be the glorious and much prized apple juice. that worked. less than five minutes and we were outta there! i'm pretty sure i earned some "no, MY mom is the coolest" points today. the whole way home he told me how brave i was. and asked about my bandaid. i told him it was nothing....of course, he doesn't need to know my arm's a little tender from the needle.... shhhhhh. :)

on the way home we stopped for a slurpee. all the world seems right with one of those little delights. bad night? what bad night? :~)

slurpees are dangerous too ya know. Bold move after a night of caffeine. When I potty trained Ava it hyped her up like some crazy drugs. She had been going to the bathroom great for about a week or so and then we had a slurpee reward for her hard work. Peed her pants twice in about 30 minutes. unbelievable!!! She was bouncing off, and peeing on, everything. in the end she had three or four accidents that night. DANGEROUS slurpees!

haha!! i think i remember that. hilarious. i'm just imagining spazzy mcghee. but did i mention the slurpee was mostly for me? yeah, nap time falls at just the right time on these occasions. i did give him a few sips but i knew it would spell disaster if he had more than that. :)
