yasth dat, mommy? yasth dat?

i would have to bet this phrase came out of connor's mouth well over 1,000 times today. and for those of you not versed in two-year-old-eese: "yasth dat" means "what's that". i know he watches a lot of curious george, but he really takes this curious thing seriously. i let him watch george when he's eating brefix, and sometimes i sing the theme song. there's a line i like, and i always tickle him when i sing.... it goes something like, "you'll never be bored, if you ask yourself, 'what is this?'" well, apparently today was "yasth dat?" day.

we went for a quick walk before daddy got home for dinner and every five steps connor would stop and ask, "yasth dat, mommy?" sometimes i knew he was just asking to ask, so i would say, "i don't know. what is it?" then he would crack up and tell me what it was. we stopped at a street light once and he said (of course) "yasth dat, mommy?" so i said, "it's a street light. it turns on at night so the street isn't dark." he had a sort of puzzled look on his face that quickly turned to a sly smirk. then he says, "it's a telephone pole. hello? what you doin'? ok, see ya. bye! hahahahaha!" then he just ran off laughing and laughing. he must have asked gramma tally that question on one of their walks during vball season and he played me like a fiddle. he already knew something about tall poles.... little stinker.

so tonight at dinner connor didn't eat his peaches, but i really wanted him to eat them so i pulled a sneaky mom trick. anytime connor sees me eating something he says, "ha'some, mommy?" which of course, means, "can i have some?" so i sat down on the floor and took a bite of peaches. the conversation cracked me up after this.
connor: ha'some, mommy?
me: you need to ask the right way.
connor: more accles please? (yes, accles would be apples)
me: they're not apples they're peaches.
connor: oranges? *as if i lied to him trying to pass oranges off as peaches.
me: no, peaches.
connor: oh, ok. more peaches please?
he gets a bite and then walks in circles around me. each time he gets to my front he asks for another bite of apples, oranges, then peaches. then one time around he stops at my hair and sniffs.
connor: i smelling you hair. mmmmm.... smells good. i give you a haircut.
that just came out of nowhere and cracked me up.

well, there were more funnies that happened today but my brain is tired and i can't think of anymore. here are a couple of pictures that i took with his pumpkin.

what's going on in there?

i like this guy. he's a funny guy.

Oh, I love how he talks. It's like a lisp but its not. So cute. By the way...you know how sometimes something doesn't happen to you until someone says it happened to them? It happens to me a lot. anyway...thanks for the pumpkin stars turning into pumpkin holes...mine was just fine until you told me what happened to yours.

yeah, i love his 'mini-lisp' too. sometimes it's more pronounced, which is probably why i don't force him to re-say words right now. i know he can say the 's' sound correctly, he just has a habit of throwing in an occasional 'th'. i'm going to let him grow out of it a bit more until i start forcing him to copy my lips.

i'm tellin' ya, our squirrels are psychotic!! they mowed right through my 'pumpkin spice' (haha! that was hilarious btw!) i ended up throwing out my pumpkins right after lunch b/c they looked horrible, and guts were all over the porch. next time i'm spraying some kind of poison on them. i can't stand those dumb squirrels. did i tell you about the squirrel with NO TAIL?? sickening.

I just had the most hilarious picture of dead squirrels all over your porch from the poison. You should look on martha stewart or something. I think I remember seeing something last year about how to keep the eating from happening. Maybe my real simple will have a tip for us...I will look that up.

You need to write down some of those cute moments for posterity's sake! I love the hair-smelling moment; that's too cute! Maybe he'll be a hair dresser when he grows up . . . .

Chloe is in the SAME what dat mode. I almost always turn it around on her because she knows what most things are now.

Nice starry eyed pumpkin!
