i got home and changed b/c i was roasting from our walk. which thoroughly surprised me. we had lunch--which nathan surprised me with also--applebees. i got one of their new lunch combos....delightful. just as nathan was leaving my head started pounding. normally, i would rate my headaches at about a 3-4 on a 1-10 scale. this baby was headed up to a 7-8. i have never had a headache like this before. it made me think of brian reagan's comedy sketch about rating pain in an ER.
patient: oh, this pain is killing me!
nurse: how would you describe your pain?
patient: maybe you didn't hear me....it's killing me. uh, how can i convey this to you....excruciating.
nurse: how would you rate your pain?
patient: four stars! two enthusiastic thumbs up!
nurse: on a scale of 1-10 what number would you give your pain?
patient: oh, boy. i better not screw this up. too high they won't believe you. too low they'll move on to somebody else.
he finally decided on 8 and he got morphine. so when he's checking out, delirious, he tells passing patients, "say 8!" hysterical. that made me laugh.
so i finally get some excedrin and fall asleep. two hours later...nothing. ok, motrin, you're up! nathan comes home to me zonked on the couch and apparently went to soccer practice came home showered and went back to work. i don't remember much of that. i'm just thankful connor slept through the whole thing.
now to real excitement. after nathan left the storm hit. the weather people have been talking about this storm for two days now. it blew over in five minutes. WHAT? that's it? oh, trust me...it was nasty for five solid minutes. but it was flying through here. btw, after it started raining was the first time my headache let up a little. i thought things had worked out pretty well. boy was i wrong. that storm sparked some pretty serious problems in our city. tree limbs broke down wires....starting fires and zapping power. we didn't have power so i asked nathan to go get us subway....eating out twice in one day??? yikes. what is this, vacation? on his way he saw a fire near the church, so he went over to see what was up. turns out a tree/part of a tree (i'm not positive if the whole thing fell or just a large limb) fell on a friend's garage. then a few houses away the wires started another garage on fire. it was quite a blaze nathan said.
since our house felt like a broiler, we decided to camp out in the living room. we normally sleep upstairs in a bungalow....THAT wasn't happenin'. we had just enough power to run a couple fans and by that point the temp outside had come down to a comfy sleeping zone. of course, an air mattress doesn't feel like my own bed, so i'm more prone to waking during the night. i only woke up about three times...which is pretty good for me. well, the third time i was in the bathroom and all of a sudden the window lit up like there were fireworks behind my house. so i bolted to the office window to see four foot flames shooting from the wires into the tree in my neighbors backyard! the wires had been jumping all afternoon and evening, but this was the first time the sparks had jumped into the tree. i yelled, "nathan!" and he said, "i see it! get my phone!" he had been woken by the noise and sparks too. so he called 911 and the firefighters came pretty fast for being so busy that night. by the time they got there the flames had stopped...figures. but the wires were still jumping. this morning i can see what the cause was....a branch from the tree had snapped and landed in just the right spot. they thanked us for the call and said they would get dte on it. they walked a few more backyards to assess the problem and then they were off to save the day again.
so now it's morning and we have power. aw...nuts....that means i have to cook. :~)
after our long walk, he was totally out on the couch. he didn't even wake up when i said "lunch"...normally that works.
campin' out with dad -- this was actually this morning. he woke up pretty early so he snuggled up with daddy.

WOW!! What a day for you guys!! Hopefully today has been better.
don't blow away heather!!!
heather-
oh, yeah, connor was pumped that today was babysitting day. he's been missing the girls big time!
Why don't I know who brian regan is? I guess I lead a sheltered life, eh? That sketch sounds hilarious. Scary stormings! I've never seen wires actually jump!
Wow. My mom was saying that she was standing in Pastor Doran's office watching Tracy & kids jumping over the live wire. Insanity. I guess that's a reasonable excuse for missing Gilmore. I'll let you off the hook with a warning. ;)
did you figure out the new look by yourself? how disappointing for me.
