we used to go every year on the friday after thanksgiving to a tree farm about an hour away. EVERYBODY went. and EVERYBODY got trees. then they all started whining about allergies, asthma, and needles all over......wah! somebody call the wambulance! buncha scrooges i tell ya! so for a few years they humored us and came along for the ride....for the kids. we would play hide and seek, and tackle anyone in sight. the best years were when there was snow all over and you could just pile it on someone. slowly they dwindled. one year we took all the kids, after that it was over. just our fam was left. so last year, we decided to go out the week before thanksgiving. turns out most tree farms open on thanksgiving. woops. we ended up finding the huron tree farm. it's practically in my parents backyard. perfect for right now when the kids are so little.
well, we thought we could go out last sunday afternoon. my dad would be home from hunting, nathan would be home from traveling, and we could grab a quick lunch at wendy's. turned out we were wrong about nathan's flight schedule. he was going to be leaving sunday morning. woops again. things were really looking grim at that point. the rest of the weekends were dedicated to hunting, and the weeks were hard to squeeze something like that in. my mom and i were thinking out loud on sunday and thought maybe tuesday would work.....we'll just play it by ear. no biggie. but if it didn't work out soon, we were gonna have to fly solo.
well, all day tuesday was a series of phone calls.
"can you get home by 4?"
"can mike get off work?"
"can you drive me?"
"will you meet us there?"
"where are we going again?"
"find out how much the trees cost."
at about 3:30 we discovered that we would be able to make it, but it would be tight.
after that it was a race against the sun. we all got out there a little after 4:30. and as is built into our genetic code, we walked all the way to THE BACK of the farm only to pick trees from the front. it was great. the weather was so abnormally warm, and the kids were in really fun moods.
my parents bought our trees again...thanks guys! but unfortunately, the website for the farm had quite old prices listed. like 4 years old!! for a minute mom thought she didn't have enough money to cover it. but we got our trees, and today my dad will be dropping ours off. i can't wait!

these two were cracking each other up as usual. we were standing by the car when dad, nic and ava pulled up in the truck, and i am told that ava got freaked out excited when she saw the little man. too cute!
here's our tree!! i decided to put this pic up b/c connor is waving and it's very cute. even though his hand is right over my face. i got another really cute one that i'm using for christmas cards this year.

such an orderal!! We prayed for the right, pre-lite 7foot tree on sale and praise God we got it. Dad opened the box, three pieces together and wala, instand lights and it looks great in the front room. When outside (80 degrees today) the lights reflect nicely from the tree through the double glass doors! Ahhhh, Christmas in Florida. Ya gotta love it!
Let's not forget what happened to me because of your outting. I was dropped off at nic's and had to start walking towards home. Tina picked me up by the time I got to Piza Hut on Dix. At least it was a beautiful day.

yikes! i didn't even think about you riding with my dad....but, you made it pretty far. did you run? although, as austin once proved, you guys can walk fast. (remember, when he went BAREFOOT from my parents house toward home....what a turkey.:)
Awesome trees! I have to tell you I was so jealous when I saw the title of the post. we are hoping to find an artificial one today....cross your fingers for us. Please post a picture of the tree once you decorated...just for me K?
Teacher note: Kayleen and I sat down last night to make Christmas decorations since that didn't make it in our suitcases. We decided to make paper snowflakes. We sat on the floor with a pile and I asked her how she learned to make them so good. She said MRS HAIRGROVE taught us in her class and I loved doing it then. :0) You saved us over here!! THANKS...it was fun making them and listening to Christmas music with hot chocolate.
that's too cool! i am a success as a teacher. :) the story of how that happened is funny: i had had just about enough of first grade that day, so i knew an impromptu art lesson was in order. i had NOTHING.....but paper! draw? boring. paint....just did it. CUT!! yes! so we just sat in a circle and started making this huge mess. it was awesome. they loved it so much they would beg to do it at recess for weeks after. it worked out so well, i did it every year after that.
hope you guys can find some kind of foliage!! :) remember, anything green can look good with snowflakes on it. :)
We put our paper snowflakes on the sliding glass door going out to our balcony so it semi-looks like it is snowing out. :) I will try a picture tomorrow of it and see if it comes out ok. Will also get a pic of the tree, even though it is propped against the wall right now and may stay there forever. Fishing line is a whole other story. We have been looking for "line" of some kind for kayleens kite since October so ya think I am gonna find "tree holding up line" HA ya gotta laugh...tis china
cool idea with the flakes. i thought for sure they'd have line of some sort, being near the sea and all. go fig. :)
